I drop down to sit in front of her, one leg under the other, and look toward the beach, enjoying her company. And I just stay there, sharing a reflective silence that allows us to enjoy the sound of the burning wood, the crashing waves, and the soft murmur of the breeze. "Have you done this before?" I ask her. I know it’s the key question when she takes a moment to answer, so I turn my face in her direction to look at her. Summer had been watching me, so she quickly looks away toward the beach when she admits, "No." I frown. "I mean," she clarifies, "I always wanted to, spend the night at the beach, but, you know..."
