Chapter 14

1152 Words
Amelia woke up with a dry mouth and the faint smell of coffee on her breath. Thank god she can't smell the alcohol.  She looked at the clock and noticed it was close to six. She got up and showered. When she finished getting ready for school she finished up her math homework and ate some eggs cooking enough for the rest of the family. Amelia wrote a note letting her parents know she was heading to the cafe to get an hour in before school along with the five after school.  She turned the lock as she was closing the door behind her and smiled. She had fun last night and enjoyed talking with Benjamin. Thinking back on last night she mentally cringed when she was persistent on kissing Banjamin but he was such a gentlemen. Brushing her fingers through her hair she grins slightly and blushes from embarrasment. Benjamin was her friend and now he's probably going to think that she's a lush. Amelia thinks of how he looked last night and how sweet and caring he is and how much she like him.  She stop for a second and starts reprimanding herself because she has enough issues and boyfriend issues doesn't need to be added to that list. Shaking her head she hurriedly gets to the cafe and opens. She counts the drawers and starts preparing for the day. She smiles as she completes her morning tasks when the bell rings signlaing the first customer. Amelia walks out of the back to greet the person and stops short when she sees Brooklyn Burbage. Amelia has a flashback to when they were younger. Her, Cat, and Brooklyn used to be the trio until she got her father arrested. Brooklyn acted like sh had no idea who Cat and Amelia were. Now Brooklyn is the biggest flake and Amelias biggest bully.  Amelia takes a deep breath and walks behind the counter. "Can I take your order?" "Yes. Can you get me a half soy half non-fat latte. I want three pumps of mango flavoring and and matcha green tea frappe. Both of those need to be large and in the frappe I need about that much honey." Brooklyn moves her fingers to show how much honoey she wants. "Did you want anything else? We have breakfast pastries for sale that would go great with a latte or frappe." Amelia asks kindly.  "Do I look like a whale? I'm sorry I don't want to eat as much as you and you're pastries aren't even that great." "That'll be a no then?" Amelia said seething. "Of course it's a no!" "What will the name for your order be?" "Put BB on the cup. Don't act like you don't know me." "Okay that will be eleven dollars and thirty- eight cents. You can swipe-" Amelia stops talking after she gets sent the death glare.  Amelia writes each drink in short form on the cups and the initials. Brooklyn pays for her drinks using applepay and sits down at the table ten feet away. The door rings while she starts making the drinks. "Be right with you!" Amelia yells over her shoulder. She finished up Brooklyns drinks a minute later and takes them to her. Getting back behind the register she finally looks up and sees Benjamin standing there. Amelia froze for a second.  "Hey?" Benjamin says cautiously. "Hey. Sorry I wasn't expecting to see you. What I can I get you?" "Um... a double Oreo caramel Frappuccino in a large- actually make that two please." "Um.. okay. " Amelia inputs the order into the register and tells Benjamin the total. "That will be ten dollars and thiry- three cents." "Here ya go." Benjamin counts out the cash and change handing it to her. He also puts a five in the tip jar and hands her a five for a tip.  "Why are you getting coffee? I didn't peg you as the coffee type. I tag you as a more energy drinker than caffeinated bean person." "Um.. well last night," Benjamin puts his hand on his neck rubbing it as if he was nervous. "You had two and made me take a sip. So I kind of stole the other half and it was awesome. Was this always on the menu?" "No." Amelia shrugs and turns around before he can see her blush. "I actually came up with it. I threw a pitch to the manager for a new drink and we did a test run. It's called the Dawson here. It's a secret menu item. Only our regulars know about it. We sell about fifty a week and about two hundred a month. They're pretty popular." "Well I know why. They're aesthetic is pretty and it tastes like salted caramel oreo. It's a unique drink. I like it." "Well thank you."  Amelia was finishing up the second one feeling appreciated for her unique tastes. Even though every time it was ordered she felt appreciated, it was different from him. She refused to believe it was because of last night. "Hey... um... about last night. What I said, I don't want you tog et the wrong idea about me. There's been a lot and I had a little too much. I'm a light wieght-" "You're good. I figured you were just feeling the effects of gratitude and mainly the alcohol. I'm sure you don't like me. We're still friends though." "Okay. I was really worried about that.  I just... I'm crazy sometimes." "It's all cool." Amelia handed him the drinks and he handed one back to her. "I bought one for you. It's close to six forty five." Benjamin says as soon as the door rings.  "I'm sorry Amie. I was running late this morning. I got it now. Thank you." Amies' work friend shows up franctically tying her apron around her waist.  "It's good Madison. Have a good day." Amie says pulling her apron off and stuffing it under the counter. Normally Friday's are busy afternoons. Everyone is out shopping and eating or writing. Coffee sales go through the roof.  Benjamin and Amelia walk outside and continue on towards school.  "So... Benjamin?" "Yeah what's up barista?" Amelia scoffs and continues, " Did you mean what you said last night? About you liking me?" Benjamin breathes deeply and smiles. "Amie, I think it was the same situation with me as it was with you. You're my friend. Even if I did I wouldn't act on it because I'm not one for mixing up relationships." "Oh... ok. I swore you and Cat argued about it. I'm sorry if I made things awkward." Amelia says grimacing. Her heart fell but she knew it was because of what happened last night. She doesn't actually like him. Sure she can tell he is attractive but having a relationship is the last thing she needs to worry about right now.
