Chapter 26

2275 Words

Treon was gone before Amber could protest. Then she couldn’t help wondering why she needed to protest. Treon and his family were likeable. She dropped onto the bed, the linen as worn as everything else, and stared at the ceiling trying not to think of everything that needed to be done. There was a lot. She filled one of her bracelets with the last of her power before she fell asleep, hoping nothing happened that she’d regret storing it. Amber woke to thoughts of all the problems ahead of her, feeling only half rested. She’d used a lot of power… Her thoughts trailed off as she tried to figure out what day it was. The room was dark and she hurried to the window to look outside. Stars filled the sky and the moon was partially hidden by clouds. Had she slept several days? Or only part of one.
