Malu Evening comes quickly, maybe too quickly. When the door opens, Clara enters with a smile on her face and Bruninho sleeping in her arms. “Lay him down on my bed,” I tell her, and she heads to my room smiling. I’m wrapped on a green blanket with red flowers, on the edge of my soft living room couch. My body is shaking, and I feel feverish. My knuckles ache, and so does my head, but I’m lighthearted for doing what I believe is right. I know this conversation with Clara is going to be tough, maybe the toughest one I’ve ever had, but it’s necessary. That’s the best for everyone involved, including her future self.
