"How could you not know?" he asked again in surprise.
"I was abandoned at the orphanage when I was just a baby. I don't even know my real name, let alone my mother's." With a self-deprecating tone, she continued, "In the end, even the orphanage chose to abandon me. I was named by the old lady who took me in."
