Growing up in the countryside, she and her four siblings were raised by her mother, who struggled to make ends meet. Her father, whom she later discovered was not her biological father, had just passed away. She is the youngest of the five children. She went to school on her bare feet, travelled miles on foot. Her mother had to get a job in a big city so that she could send money home every month. Sometimes months would go by without seeing her mother; her older sister was taking care of the household. She wasn't a strong and healthy child; she was forever falling sick. At some point, she had a bad skin condition, and doctors almost thought she had skin cancer. Even at school, other children would run away from her...that's how terrible her skin was. During her second grade, she was hospitalized and diagnosed with arthritis; every bone in her body was pounding with pain. And the whole hospital staff was shocked...they had never heard or seen a 7-year-old suffering from arthritis. Her health challenges improved as she grew up and learnt to take care of herself. Despite life and health challenges, she grew up to become a smart and strong young lady. The way she was able to navigate through life, one could swear she had it all easy growing up.
