New Magic

Sunday morning, I got up to make breakfast for mom and I so we can talk about the letter Elisi wrote me. When I am almost done cooking she finally comes downstairs with a stunned look all over her face. "Good morning mom are you hungry,"  

" Yes, I am, Ok what's up,"  

" What makes you think something is up," 

" Because Kiera you don't cook unless you want something," 

" Ok mom, Elisi wrote me this note saying I have some kind of powers and you didn't want me to know," Mom crosses the room and sits down at the table then puts her head in her hands. " Kiera what your Elisi said is true she did have magical powers, so do I. I have always known that you did to every time we worked magic at our circles I could feel you rising and getting stronger as you got older, but I used mine to keep your down so you or anyone else would notice also to keep you safe," 

" What kind of powers did she have, the kind like the sisters had on Charmed," 

"No, but when she worked her spells magical things would happen, she would make a tincture that would heal the sick, she was a very powerful woman your Elisi," Mom gets up from the table and goes up into her room then comes back holding something in her hands, she rolls it out and there before me is our family tree. "We come from a long line of witches," Mom explains. "Our family was one of the first families that settled in Salem, Massachusetts,"   

" Wow! Really? Why didn't you tell me this before," 

"I was trying to wait until you were older, Kiera, but I guess Elisi thought you were old enough now," Mom has a little smile on her face when she says that. It must have been hard for her to keep me from knowing for so long. " Mom? Last night at the circle when I was doing my power chant we were floating a little until I stopped the chant,"  

"Did anybody else notice,"  

" No, I don't think so," 

"Good, make sure only the people you trust the most know, it's a very powerful secret we keep Kiera, make sure you only use it for good, remember the Wiccan Rede Harm None ok, I will mom I promise," After breakfast, I go up to my room and finish going through the box of my Elisi's things, her robe, silver cups, wand, athame, book of shadows, and some different colored bottles that are empty. "Hmm, there must be some leftover bottles of Elisi's," I tell myself. I jump on my bed and grab the book of shadows and start flipping through it. "It's crazy, some of the stuff Elisi could do. I hope I can be as powerful as her someday," I tell myself with a tear rolling down my cheek. All of a sudden I jump at the sound of someone knocking on my door with mom's voice on the other end "Kiera are you ok,” 

"Yes, mom I'm ok you can come in," I tell her. She opens the door and walks over to the bed. " I was worried about you; you've been up here for four hours,”

"Four hours," I exclaim. "I must have fallen asleep reading through Elisi's book of shadows,” 

"That's a good idea. Going through her book will teach you more than I ever could. You can even practice some of her spells just be careful and if you need any help I'm always here for you," And with that mom kisses my cheek and goes downstairs. 

I start looking through the BOS again when I stumble on a Wish Spell, " Just need a paper, pen, and matches. So I draw a pentagram the size of the paper, "Hmm what should my wish be," I say aloud. " I know what it should be, it will be that I will learn to control my magic," As I write it in the center of the pentagram a smile comes to my face. Lastly, I go downstairs and grab the matchbox and proceed to the backyard and burn it after it's completely burnt. I thank the goddess for hearing my wish. I turned around and noticed mom was watching me. "So what did you wish for," She asks with a smile on her face. " Just for me to learn to control my magic," I answered her. " That is a really good wish Kiera," Mom replies and hugs me. 

I go back upstairs to my bedroom and start reading the BOS again except this time I notice something in the front that I didn't see the last time a little passage in the front that says TO MY DEAREST GRANDDAUGHTER KIERA MAY ALL YOUR WISHES COME TRUE, LOVE ELISI. Ok, I must have overlooked it the last time it's not like she can write in her book after she is dead. After supper, I go get ready for bed, except I can't sleep so I grab the BOS and continue reading some more. Don't know how long it was until I fell asleep, but the next thing I know my alarm is going off, I pull myself out of bed and head for the shower hoping it will wake me up unfortunately I stay in too long because by the time I get out I barely have time to get dressed and get to school before the first period. I pull up just in time to hear the bell ring for school to begin. Cassie comes over with a concerned look on her face “Hey girl didn't think you were coming today,”
