CLARA’s POV I arrived at Fortress Watch Security Agency at 7:03 a.m., the bold letters standing tall on the building, accompanied by its distinctive big-eyed logo. The office was mostly empty, as resumption was at 8 a.m., but I was here early for my “special duty work.” My heart pounded as I replayed my boss’s message. I headed straight to his office, knowing he always arrived before everyone else. “Good morning, Boss,” I greeted, saluting. Morning, Clara. How was your night?” he asked with a warm smile. “Fine, thank you, sir,” I replied politely. “I believe you’re ready for today’s duty with the president's son?” “Yes, sir,” I responded, though my tone betrayed a hint of uncertainty. “You sound unsure,” he said, studying me carefully. “I understand you’ve probably heard all kinds of things about Ethan, arrogant, cold, a playboy, and so on from the other agents. But I want you to know that you can do this, okay?” “Yes, sir. I can,” I answered more firmly this time. “All you need to do is mind your business and focus on your job. Don’t cross any boundaries. Is that clear?” “Yes, sir,” I said confidently, standing straighter. “Good. Here is his office address, he will be waiting for you there,” my boss said, handing me a small piece of paper. “Alright, boss,” I replied, taking it from him. “Take Lucas and Nick with you as well,” he added. “Yes, boss,” I acknowledged. “That will be all,” he concluded. “Thank you, sir,” I said before exiting his office. My heart raced once more as I made my way to Nick and Lucas’ office. Both were junior colleagues, but reliable ones. “Good morning, Lucas. Good morning, Nick,” I greeted as I stepped in. “Good morning, Clara,” they chorused in response. “You both are aware of the duty we have today, right?” I asked, looking at them expectantly. “Yes, we are. Boss already informed us,” Lucas replied. “Good. We have to leave now. Nick, you’ll be driving us to this location,” I said, handing him the piece of paper with the address written on it. “No problem,” Nick replied confidently. “Great. Meet me outside in three minutes,” I instructed, turning on my heel and leaving their office to prepare. I made my way to the car lot where the office patrol car was parked. From a distance, I spotted Nick and Lucas standing by the car door, waiting for me. “Shall we?” I asked as I slid into the back seat. “Yes,” they replied in unison before getting into the car. The ride was unusually quiet, with only the hum of the engine breaking the silence. A few minutes into the journey, I felt the familiar pang of anxiety creeping in. My heart began to race as thoughts of Ethan swirled in my mind. What will he be like? Will he be as arrogant and difficult as they say? The calm voice of the navigation system broke through my thoughts. “Four minutes until you reach your destination,” it announced. My chest tightened, and I could feel my heartbeat quicken even more. This is it, I thought, gripping the edge of my seat. There’s no turning back now. “You have arrived at your destination,” the GPS announced again. “You can do this, Clara,” I whispered to myself, taking a deep breath as I stepped out of the car. Nick and Lucas followed closely behind. The building in front of us was massive, exuding wealth and power, with VELOUR HEIGHTS boldly emblazoned at the top. I straightened my posture, readjusted my clothes, and discreetly checked that my gun was securely in place. With a deep breath, I headed toward the main entrance, ready to face the day. At the reception desk, I approached the receptionist with a polite smile. “Good morning,” I greeted. “Good morning. Welcome to VELOUR HEIGHT?” she spoke, her tone professional. “My name is Clara, from FORTRESS WATCH SECURITY AGENCY.” I replied, presenting my ID card for verification. “Oh, yes,” she said with a nod. “Liam mentioned you’d be coming. Take the turning on your left, and you’ll see an elevator. His office is the last one on your right when you reach the top floor. I will inform his P.A. about your arrival, he will be expecting you.” “Thank you” i replied With that,I proceeded to where the elevator is as she picked up the telephone to call Liam, her voice calm and efficient as she relayed the details. After a few minutes in the elevator, a soft ding echoed, signaling my arrival. I took a deep breath, steadying myself as I stepped forward toward the last door at the end of the hallway. Reaching the door, I pressed the doorbell, announcing my presence. A few seconds later, the door swung open to reveal a young man, likely in his mid-twenties, looking slightly surprised to see me. “Hi, good morning. I’m Liam, Mr. Smith’s personal assistant,” he introduced himself with a polite smile. “Good morning. My name is Clara Jones from FORTRESS WATCH SECURITY AGENCY. I’ve been assigned to your boss today,” I stated professionally. Liam’s brows lifted slightly in surprise. “You’re really the security agent assigned to him?” he asked, still looking skeptical. “Yes. Is there a problem?” I questioned, curiosity creeping into my tone. “Not exactly,” he sighed. “It’s just that Mr. Smith was already against the idea of having a bodyguard, let alone a female bodyguard. This might not sit well with him.” I exhaled quietly but kept my composure. “Can you at least let me in?” “Oh, right, my bad. Please, come in,” he said, stepping aside to usher me in. “Thank you,” I muttered as I stepped inside. “Please inform Mr. Smith that I’m here,” I added, preparing myself for whatever awaited me next. “Sure, just a second,” he said, turning back to his seat and picking up the telephone to announce my arrival. “You can go in now, and Clara, I wish you good luck,” he added, his tone laced with sympathy, as though he already felt sorry for me. “Thank you, I’ll be fine,” I replied with as much boldness as I could muster, though the nervousness brewing inside me was hard to ignore. Taking a deep breath, I proceeded to open Ethan’s door. The sight before me was enough to momentarily steal my breath. There he was, sitting in his massive CEO chair with his back to me. His office was a perfect reflection of his power and privilege, the floor-to-ceiling windows showcased the breathtaking city skyline. At the center of the room sat a sleek black marble desk with “ETHAN SMITH” engraved in gold. Beside it was a collection of custom gold-plated pens neatly arranged, and a towering bookshelf filled with titles that screamed sophistication and authority. Everything about the space exuded control, wealth, and dominance. “Good morning, Mr. Smith,” I began, my voice steady, though my hands almost trembled at my sides. At the sound of my voice, he lifted his head and turned to face me. His strikingly handsome face was like a work of art, sharp and captivating, with an intensity in his brown eyes that seemed to pierce straight through me. For a moment, I couldn’t help but feel as though I had just stepped into the lion’s den. He watched me from head to toe in silence. The rumors about his cold, intimidating presence suddenly felt very real. “Who are you?”
