"What!" Zara almost yelled as she instantly removed her head from Kiari's shoulder.
All along she had thought that Kiari was the one who had bought the shares. For some reason, she believed that Kiari bought the shares to help her or to ask for something in return.
However, Cara's family had bought them and now she was thinking something very different. Kiari never slept with her fiance, so she thought her intentions were pure.
But Cara slept with Daniel and so Zara could not even mistakenly think that Cara had been doing anything for her benefit, possibly all Cara and her family were thinking about was themselves.
Zara was infuriated, she wanted desperately to ask Cara why she was doing these things; why she slept with her fiance and why she bought the shares of her company.
Unexpectedly, Zara fell to tears again, "why is everything blowing up in my face again? What did I do wrong to deserve this?"
Kiari couldn't say anything but just watch how Zara cried like a child, what was left for her to do was wail like a woman who had lost her child.
Kiari obviously felt pity for her, the only problem she had was how to express such pity, how to show Zara that her heart ached for her.
This was a misfortune Kiari wouldn't wish on anybody, this was something she never wanted to experience in her life: being betrayed by a friend and losing all her money in one go.
The helpless girl had been grieving the bankruptcy of her company and suddenly, news reached her that her fiance had been cheating on her and not just that, with her friend, the same friend who bought the shares of her company.
Kiari took in a deep breath but stayed unmoving, she managed to run a hand over Zara's back but that was it, she couldn't do more.
Zara dried her tears, "what about you?"
Kiari was slightly taken aback, disoriented, unable to put things together, especially Zara's question.
"What do you mean?"
Zara cleared her throat, she realized from her words just now, it was slightly hoarse, "you rich people only want what benefits you. You bring me to the hospital from God knows where and you tell me about the witch that betrayed me. You cannot tell me you don't have a reason for this?"
Kiari chuckled, "I didn't do much, I only helped a woman I saw sprawled on the sidewalk, I told her the things she was bound to find out when she walked out of the hospital".
Zara gave her a scrutinizing stare, hoping to find out if Kiari was lying about her intentions or not, however, Kiari just laughed, the look Zara was giving her, she found somewhat funny.
"Even if I do have ulterior motives, what could you possibly offer me? You're poor now, what use are you to me?"
Kiari had shut her up with her words. It was true, Kiari had been telling the truth. Zara had absolutely nothing she could offer Kiari and she somehow started to feel that she was stupid for even thinking about it.
"I'm sorry," Zara suddenly said, "I'm just lost. I feel so lost. I have no idea what to do or how to go about this. I used to have my dad or Daniel, but now I have nothing". Tears fell from her eyes.
Daniel was the person she was very dependent on, with every problem she had, Daniel was the person she ran to for guidance or for help.
Now he was gone, far away from her, he had betrayed her trust and she couldn't see herself forgiving him or even attempting to continue with the relationship.
Zara hated the next words that were about to leave her lips. Kiari was evidently a cocky woman with very rude manners. Those manners had not been displayed firsthand for Zara to see but she knew that Kiari possessed them. They were in her aura.
"Can you do anything to help me?" Zara asked.
Kiari raised an eyebrow at her, "after accusing me, now you beg me?"
Zara wanted to roll her eyes, but she couldn't. She needed something from Kiari and if needed, she would lick her feet to get it.
She knew Kiari could help her one way or the other, the Cepheus were very rich people and Kiari was the CEO of their empire. She waa respected and admired everywhere, so of course, she could help Zara. If only Zara asked politely.
"Your father's company and mine have some unfinished business, even in his death, those terms will stand. And one of those terms are; whether I want to or not, I have to provide assistance to you when you need it". Kiari said casually.
Zara didn't know what she should be more shocked at; Kiari's words or how casually she said them like they didn't communicate such an important matter.
"What sort of business is that that you have to offer assistance to me whenever I need it?" Zara asked.
Kiari only stayed quiet and looked at her. She didn't see Zara as someone that could easily understand the gravity of their situation and if she were to explain to Zara now, the latter would just faint from the whole situation.
Kiari's expression hardened like gravel, "I am bound to help you, from the agreement with your father and that is my part to play. Yours on the other hand, you will come to find out soon".
Zara understood her words, she couldn't tell her the agreement that her father made with their family, or maybe it wasn't her place to tell her.
"My company's broke, suffering deficit problems even before all this, why would Cara's family still bother themselves with it? Is it to humiliate me? I didn't think there was such deep animosity existing between us before". Zara changed the topic.
Kiari's discomfort regarding telling Zara about the agreement or business they had with her father was palpable, Zara could not force her, nor did she want to ruin her mood.
She didn't know anything about Kiari, but she guessed that it was better to converse with her when her mood seemed lively and from the many chuckles she had let out and the look in her eyes, it seemed that she was in a good mood.
"I think there's more to see, I cannot conclude on anything yet without knowing everything that happened backstage. I only have several pieces, I need them complete". Kiari said.
Zara nodded her head. "I'm guessing, it's not your place to tell me the arrangement you have with my father".
Kiari shook her head before rising to her feet, "I wasn't the one who made such arrangements, I have a family, Zara, they were the ones who had a deal with your father. Just like you, I only have to play my part in this whole scheme".
Zara was burning with curiosity, she wanted to know desperately about what was going to happen to her later, she wanted to know what prompted her father to enter an agreement with the Cepheus family.
"How did they even meet?"
"Who demanded something first?"
Thinking about all of this, Zara had temporarily forgotten about Daniel, she figured that this was bigger than her, even bigger than Kiari and she needed to know what she had gotten herself into.
No, what her father had gotten her into without her knowledge.
"Is it somehow a betrothal?" Zara asked Kiari who was standing by the window looking outside.
"Something like that, but not completely. Getting married will be your choice, you're needed for something else". Kiari said without looking back at her.
"Something else?" Zara was confused.
"The one I don't need to marry, is it your brother?" Zara asked again.
Kiari now turned around and looked at her, "what do you think?"
Zara nodded her head, it had to be her brother. There was no way her father would arrange a marriage between her and another woman. Kiari was very attractive but she couldn't imagine herself married to a woman.
She wasn't against homosexuality, however, she was nothing like them. She loved men, she had loved a man for years now, and this was what her father knew before he died. No way would he arrange a marriage with another woman.
"It has to be your brother, you're a woman, I cannot be married to you". Zara said.
Kiari nodded her head, "precisely so. But you have nothing to worry about. Daniel is a very good looking man, but he is nothing compared to Killian, you will have no problem if you decide to marry Killian".
Zara's heart skipped a beat at the mention of her soon to be husband, "you speak highly of him".
Kiari shook her head, "I'm only stating facts. Killian will treat you well, how a man is supposed to treat his woman. When you see him, his looks alone might tempt you to marry him".
Zara didn't doubt her words, Killian and Kiari were twins, and if Kiari was this beautiful, so beautiful that the heavens probably shook when she was born, then it was undoubtedly true that Killian would be equally earth shattering handsome.
Moreover, she had seen some pictures of Killian around, but she never gave it a second look, her heart belonged to Daniel, she did not see the need to check out other men then.
Until now, she started to regret everything. She wished she had spent a few seconds staring at Killian, maybe if she had, she wouldn't be so anxious to meet him now.
Yes, she really wanted to meet him, maybe she might marry him.
