The following morning Oliver brought Anya breakfast to her in bed with a note saying, "I'm sorry. I know you're used to better."
It was a couple of fried potatoes and a scrambled egg. In reality, as the heiress of House Hydra, Anya was only aloud a smoothie for breakfast and salads for lunch and dinner. If anything, fried potatoes, and a scrambled egg were much more savorous than a dull smoothie and flavorless salads.
Anya scowled, "How dare you say that."
Bewildered, Oliver looked at her as she munched on the food. He shook his head and sat on the chair in the far corner of the room. When she finished she placed the wooden plate aside and stood up in the mirror to examine her wounds. The cuts were healing much rapidly and there looked to be no permanent scars. Lifting her shirt a tiny amount she could see the dull purple color of her bruise. Afterward, she examined his bookshelf. It was filled with a bunch of spellbooks. Most of which she had already gone over with Luthor.
But the Wind spellbook was an exception. High House Slasher controlled wind but it brought her memories of Aria. Her blood boiled at the thought. House Slasher members start early in channeling their shifting and abilities with the wind. The utmost concentration, peace, and a clear mind are needed to bend the wind to your command. It is considered the most powerful element and the hardest to master. It was rare to hear about someone beyond House Slasher channeling the wind.
She turned back to Oliver with the Wind spellbook in hand, "You've mastered the wind yet?"
His hand moved fluently as he wrote, "Yes but I haven't mastered ice and water."
It's true. The second most difficult element to master is ice and water. You need brutality and viciousness to control it. This was why House Hydra was considered vicious and cruel. Those who don't harbor revenge, pain, or any negative emotion cannot control ice and water. Oliver was a calm and calculating person so Anya knew it'd difficult for him. Anya, on the other hand, mastered ice and water quickly because of the rashness and anger broiling inside her. Ice is cold and unforgivable therefore, making the recipients cold and distant from people.
You need to have some harbored anger or resentment to be able to control the unforgivable ice. You couldn't be in control of your abilities like Oliver was but needed to be like Anya who's abilities reflect her anger.
Anya snapped out of her daze. It was evident Oliver considered her to be cold, vicious, and cruel just like the rest of her House. "I'll propose you a deal."
Oliver raised his eyebrows and folded his arms across his chest to listen. Anya continued, "You train me how to control wind and I'll teach you how to master ice and water."
Olive thought for a moment before writing in bold letters, "Deal."
"Great, tell me when you're free and I'll teach you," Anya said and waited while he wrote something down.
He wrote, "I'm free now."
"Oh," Anya said surprised. She hadn't expected to teach him this soon. "Er, is there a place outside where I could teach you because learning it will be harsh."
He nodded and signaled her to follow him. She followed him a bit suspicious because they weren't in the palace no more but in the forest behind the palace. In a small clearing, he stopped and motioned at the area for her to commence. Now it occurred to Anya that she really had no idea how to teach someone about spells. Luthor seemed to make it easy.
"Let's see," Anya concentrated. "We'll channel deep anger or resentment you have."
He shook his head and wrote in a notebook he recently purchased in town, "I have no anger or resentment."
"That's a lie," Anya stated. "Everyone has something. Even if its when your sibling stole your lollipop."
He wrote once more, "I think we should reschedule practice."
"No," Anya reprimanded. "I get that you're scared you'll lose control and be brutal but it's what's needed to master this. Just watch."
Anya turned to a tree and placed her palm on its trunk. Channeling her anger of not receiving her wanted freedom she cast, "Eternal Frost."
A cube of horrendous ice surrounded the tree trunk in a prickly form. Proof of the ugly hatred in her. Sticking out in different places. A loud c***k was heard when the tree trunk snapped in half deep inside the ice. Anya had gone too far. The ice was only supposed to freeze the trunk in place but not break it.
Oliver handed her the notepad that he wrote in saying, "I see you have a lot of anger."
Anya coughed awkwardly and said, "Your turn. Since you can't talk you have to mentally say what you want to happen."
She watched as he centered on a different tree. Both his palms firmly placed against its trunk. When he opened his eyes Anya knew it had been done. A cube of even more horrifying ice enveloped the tree. It was worse than Anya's and began expanding beyond the tree. It expanded away from Oliver but was heading toward Anya.
She yelped and jumped up but the ice had caught her legs mid-air. The vicious ice began to cover her legs. It was horrible to experience ice from the anger of the spellcaster. A dark void filled her mind and she could feel Oliver's anger. She screamed and held her arms out to Oliver who quickly scrambled to his feet to try to help her but it was too late and the ice-covered her body. It was pitch-black ice. Anya's ice always came out dark blue not pitch-black. Oliver's anger was deeper than hers.
She was frozen. Her eyes were close but she felt a breeze on her fingertips from her outstretched hand she held out to Oliver. She heard pounding against the ice and Oliver's hand holding hers. He was trying to break the ice but it was impossible because to break the ice you needed to get rid of the hatred the ice came from.
She focussed on the pitch-black ice, 'BREAK,' she screamed in her mind.
It was difficult to break it but she heard the cracking of the ice and then it's the ear-shattering break. She gasped aloud when the ice around her broke and she fell to the ground. Black strings were running across her arms, signifying that his hatred was polluting her.
Oliver helped her back to her feet shakily. He stared at the black strings flowing across her arms.
"Don't worry, they'll disappear but we should reschedule this practice."
