Alexander signaled the waiter to come and paid for the drinks she ordered.
“Did I tell you I ran out of money, why did you pay?”
Taking a deep breath she continued “st..stay away from me”. This time she stood up to leave. Alex walked closely behind Her heels clicked unsteadily on the polished floor as she tried her step out of the booth. On the fifth step she fell straight into Alexander's arms and without warning, he swept her off her feet walking out of the bar.
Entering his black suv he kept her in the passenger seat, while he drove.
He knew her house's location, so he drove there.
Since it was not really far from the bar, he arrived shortly after and carried her to her front door.
“You should leave now” She said, barely able to stand after he dropped her.
“What's your pass code Lavender? ” He said in a commanding tone.
She wasn't in the right state of mind to begin to argue. She punched in some digits and opened the door to her apartment.
On entering inside he was about to fall again when Alex picked her up.
“You have low alcohol tolerance and yet to decide to get drunk” he muttered.
Being this close to him felt surreal.
His scent, the warmth of his body. It all tugged at something inside her she wasn’t ready to admit.
Lavender, why do you keep hurting me?” Alexander's voice was low as he tucked her into bed.
She blinked slowly, thrown aback by his sudden softness.
He remembered vividly how she had shattered him when she told him about her arranged marriage with Desmond.
He was planning on proposing to her that same day and that threw him off balance. He had finally found the love of his life and she gave up on him, all for family validation.
The only hope he had was the contract he compelled her to sign after trying to kidnap her on her wedding day.
Love can make people do crazy things.
Elara stared into his eyes, although she was not fully conscious, the love she saw in his eyes could not be mistaken. It still lingered, the same love she had buried.
She realized that she had been unfair. She had cheated herself and cheated Alex of a good life they could have had together. She had sacrificed everything to make her family love her but even her sacrifices were futile.
“Alex you should stop whatever it is you are doing” her voice slurred.
He didn't answer.
“I am not the Lavender you fell in love with” with a deep breath she continued.
“Those three years changed and turned my whole life upside down Xander”
Her lips trembled as her next words tumbled out without warning, uncensored and raw.
“My husband… kept our marriage in secret for three years. I was only significant as his secretary”.
Elara laughed. Her laugh was hollow and sharp and the edge, it did not reach her eyes.
She continued “You know the fun part, he paraded my step sister as his girlfriend, while I rot in silence and my supposed parents…
She choked, voice cracking.
Alexander's hands curled into fists beneath the bed sheets.
“My parents were in support of their union.
I was kidnapped and my husband left me there for over three days, those men.. they threw me into the ocean. I would have died if not for a fisherman”.
“My husband was on a vacation with Marga, instead of calling the police or seeking ways to find me, he ignored me like I never existed”.
Alex's eyes turned red with visible veins popping from his forehead, he tried to keep calm to make her comfortable to tell him more.
This time, tears brimmed in her eyes and she could barely speak.
“I lost my child Alex, I lost my… my baby” She muttered, wiping off her tears, but it kept falling.
He stared at her blankly, his anger boiling to the brim. He despised Desmond before, for taking the love of his life but this confession made him want to destroy him.
“I was locked in a room for talking back to my step sister and that was his punishment for me . He left me there for days, no food. I was weak and barely made it out alive”.
She added.
“Why did you not call me? I would have burned the world to save you ” Alex said as he kept close to him.
She knew very well he was not exaggerating, but she could not bring herself to call the man she had left behind to save her from the marriage she abandoned him for.
“I had already broken your heart, I just wanted you to live peacefully away from me and..” She was interrupted by Alex.
“It is alright, you need to sleep now”.
She was still very much dizzy and it didn't take long for her to fall asleep in his arms.
He knew that she would probably get angry at herself for spilling this much but he cared less about that.
Right now he has one goal, which is to make everyone that made his woman's life miserable go through hell.
And of course his first target is Desmond Miller.
He knew she would be very uncomfortable if she woke up and found him laying beside her.
He took her off her shoes and covered her properly, with that he left her apartment.
Entering his car he drove to his pent house.
Unlocking the door, he walked into the exquisitely polished house. He entered his room, and after some minutes of freshening up.
He lay on his king-sized bed staring at the city from there. He ran a hand through his ruffled hair and sighed. His face is still stoic and unreadable.
He picked up his phone from the side table and made a call.
“Make the necessary preparation for the upcoming auction, I will be attending. Send in an extra invite” when he was done, he dropped the cellphone.
He hated himself now for listening to her, he should never have let her go that day.
Even if it was the last thing he was going to do, he would make them pay dearly.
After much tossing and tossing for over thirty minutes, he stood up, picking up his laptop. He sat at the edge of his bed and began working.
This was his life.
Ruthless. Cold. Focused.
And now… fueled by vengeance.
