While nothing else happened, our evening had still been effectively ruined. We were both on edge and I quickly regretted not asking the team to stick around for the night. Avery was up almost every hour, pacing the bedroom or sitting by the window staring out into the night. When she slept, I was up pacing the house, checking the locks on all the doors and windows, and making sure the alarm system was armed.
By morning, we were feeling edgy and irritable, so we each went a couple of rounds with the heavy bags. It helped, but not enough. Tired and frustrated, I called the security team in to help me choose an updated security system.
