My mother used to say that dwelling on a problem only made it worse. So, after the legal paperwork was completed and filed for Jonah’s defamation suit, Jonah and I decided we needed a break. We weren’t going to dwell on Kylie’s lies or what the public may or may not believe. We wouldn’t agonize over the potential damage to his career. Instead, we were going to take the night just for us. We were going to close ourselves off from the world and just be.
When Millie left for the day, I sent a text, warning our friends that we were going dark, then we turned off our phones. We made dinner together and took it out onto the veranda to enjoy the evening sounds. It was just what the doctor ordered. Just us. No distractions. No stress. Just peace and quiet.
