"Jenna! Oh my God! I thought he was going to kill you!"
Ava crashed into me, squeezing me in her arms as I walked into the kitchen. I could still feel the lingering heat from my encounter from Tristan but this sobered me up quickly. I looked up as Kelly and Cadence also ran over to wrap me in their arms and we all stood together in a giant embrace.
"Ok missy, spill it!" Cadence said to me as she unwrapped herself and took a step back. She eyed me up and down. "Did the two of you mate already or what?" she said with a smirk on her face.
"Cadence! Of course not! I only met him earlier tonight."
"Did you see the look on his face when Alpha Dean called you down to give you to that guard? It was so scary but sooooo romantic. He was so jealous!" Ava said dreamily as she leaned her elbows onto the center island counter. At the mention of the guard I became very still. The girls knew what had happened to me years ago. Cadence was there and she nursed me afterward. When I was moved into house duty after they released me, it took me a long time to even speak to others again. Cadence pulled the other girls aside and explained what happened to me so they would understand and try to help. But I never told anyone who it was. I didn't even know his name. That was one of the shocking things about tonight. How did Alpha Dean know?
"Yeah, he was pretty mad" was all I could respond.
"Jenna! Tell us what happened! All we saw was him drag you away while his wolf was coming out and we all thought you were dead! Marcus and Chase called out and began rushing after you to try to save you from him and that's when Alpha Dean's men got involved. They were all fighting and growling. Alpha Dean was PISSED! He started screaming and had your brothers taken away. We don't know where they were taken." Kelly explained.
"I have to find them! I have to make sure they are ok. They had no idea I was still here or that I was alive!" I said as I went to run out of the front kitchen door to the dining hall. As the door swung open, I saw the disaster from the brawling. tables were flipped over, chairs knocked down and a lot of wine and broken glasses littered the floor. I took a step out and heard a gruff voice from the right side of the room.
"Don't you worry little sister, we got your back!" Chase chuckled as he sauntered over to me. Marcus was a step behind him with a huge grin on his face as well.
"We couldn't let you celebrate your eighteenth birthday without us!" Marcus said "You know I have a thing for cake."
My eyes were as round as saucers at the sight of my brothers and I immediately ran over and jumped into their arms. They were both easily a foot taller than I when I had last seen them and if I didn't jump, I wasn't going to reach them. Chase and Marcus both grasped me in their arms and I began to cry again for the third time today. For the first time in a long time, I felt almost whole again. They put me down and I began checking them all over for any broken bones or cuts they might have. Cadence, Kelly and Ava had followed me into the dining hall and stood in surprise watching the exchange. They grew up here also and knew my brothers. Kelly stood motionless watching Marcus, her cheeks turning pink.
The guys laughed as I checked them and I looked up exasperated. "We're ok. They didn't really do much other than take us outside. Everybody is pretty drunk so they chalked it up to us celebrating a little too hard. I exaggerated a little too and told them we started celebrating the new Alpha earlier tonight with our men. Those guards really are dumbasses" Chase explained.
"What about you? Are you ok? Alpha Tristan grabbed you while he was wolfing out. I thought he was going to hurt you. Are you really mates? Have you really been here all this time? Jenna, if we knew, we would have come back and taken you away a long time ago" Marcus's said with such guilt.
Being the eldest and natural Alpha, he always took such responsibility for all of us as we were growing up. He always was the one to make sure that all of the pups, not just our family, but everyone around was doing the right thing and taken care of. He would be the one to mediate if there were fights among the hormonal teenage wolves and make sure that nothing escalated. If one of them did get hurt, he took it very personal that he failed them.
"I'm ok. Tristan was very mad. Yes, he is apparently my mate. We met earlier tonight in his room. I was setting up and lighting the fire for him, trying to prepare for his arrival. He came in and we were mates." I explained. "I guess he didn't like the idea that I was being married off to someone else" I chuckled.
Marcus and Chase looked at each other then back at me. They knew there was much more to the story than I was telling. "C'mon" Chase said as he put his arm around my shoulders, "Let's go eat some cake!"
As we returned through the door back into the kitchen, Kelly never left her spot that she had been standing in. She remained motionless staring at the man in front of her. Marcus was also standing there with a bewildered expression on his face. He looked directly at Kelly and muttered one word.
"Mate".
In the Master Suite.........
Alpha Dean was incensed! He was snarling and throwing anything he could grab. His claws raking through the curtains, shredding them to bits. The f*****g Reynolds family was always in his f*****g way! It took him years to build up enough of the rogues in the Northeast to form a pack. Many of them he had to kill because rogues, by definition, didn't like being part of a pack. They didn't work well with others and all had their own agenda.
But THIS! His son was going to f*****g explain! He didn't fight and cheat and manipulate to earn this position as the Alpha of the biggest pack in the Northeast to have it taken away because his son found a mate. THAT mate. It had to be the f*****g Reynolds b***h! The knock on the door sounded through the room and he snarled "What?!"
Tristan knew this was going to be a long night with his dad. He was never an easy man but over the years, Tristan learned how to maneuver his father and placate him to soothe his outbursts. He didn't rise up to be the incredible warrior he was without learning battle tactics and how to deal with an enemy. He took a deep breathe before opening the massive oak doors to his father's room.
Dean's eyes were black orbs and he looked at Tristan as his son entered the room. "f*****g explain yourself!"
"What the f**k do you want me to explain? I found my mate. End of story."
"That's NOT the end of the story and you f*****g know it. That b***h will never become Luna of this pack! What the f**k kind of show was that in front of the entire hall? Now every single wolf here knows your p***y whipped by that cunt! I worked too goddamn hard to get here without you f*****g everything up on your first day"
Tristan stood very still and observed a a patch of the lush carpet while patiently waited for his father to release all of his venom. Quietly, he slowly raised his head and narrowed his eyes at his father.
"I moved my chess pieces into position" he said slowly. " Marcus Reynolds was supposed to be Alpha of this pack. He was groomed and ready to take over. The only reason you were able to succeed was because you got lucky by injuring him early on in the attack. He was too far away for me to know what he was doing or if he was planning an uprising. I needed him and his brother close so I could keep a closer eye and ear on the situation. You know the saying......'keep your friends close and your enemies closer?"
He watched his father deflate a little as his black eyes turned back to brown and his claws retracted. Tristan walked further into the room and made his way over to the large mahogany desk that sat in the alcove on the opposite wall.
"As for Jenna....... I haven't changed my plan. She is the weakness that we need for both Marcus and Chase. The leverage. Just because she turned out to be my mate doesn't change the fact that she is going to die."
Dean threw his head back and laughed! He knew his son was good at strategizing a war and he was going to enjoy every second of watching the Reynolds family being destroyed. An eye for eye.
