Chapter Two

I got into one of the cars parked miles away from the building, the rescue team following close behind. “Greetings Lyra, I have to say you are a very hard woman to find.“ I glanced at the woman beside me as I sat in the car. “Melissa " I murmured in reply. I rubbed my fingertips on my head as the car started moving. “Thank you,” I said, looking in her direction. This time around, I was able to see her face clearly. The same familiar face, the same fair skin, green eyes, carefully carved eyebrows, full red lips, Melissa has always been the definition of a seductive beauty. “Don't thank me, it is a shame if I lose my most important employee isn't it?“ I snorted out loud “We both know you are capable of finding another as soon as you can.“ My words were replied to with a chuckle.“It’s very unlike you to be caught unaware, Lyra. What exactly happened?” I pressed my fingertips to my forehead again, trying to recollect what exactly happened to me. “I was at a park with Liana when we got cornered… the Vaelor clan, they have her…they have my daughter, Melissa.“ Rage burned through me. That clan took everything from me, and now my daughter, my Liana is in the hands of my worst enemies. How did this happen? I’m never careless. “Calm down, Lyra. I believe they took both you and Liana because they discovered your gift, am I right?” "From what the i***t in the lab said...yes, but how? We've been in hiding for two years now, and I was extremely careful as usual, disguises, masking our scents!!” I gripped my hair so hard I felt like I was going to pull it out, my daughter is in danger, away from me where I can't find her. Raw fear filled my pores and clogged my throat. I struggled to breathe as my body began to tremble. Liana is with them. My daughter. What if they’re hurting her right now to punish me? Goddess, she’s only eight. I can’t lose another child. What if— “Snap out of it Lyra, now is not the time for trembling” Melissa's voice snapped me out of my fears. She stretched out a file towards me “ Here, it contains a new safe house address and other necessary information you need.“ “I haven’t been able to locate Liana’s location…I'll send another file to you tomorrow, a detailed file of everything we know about the Vaelor clan.“ “Have they made it public? Her existence I mean” I clenched my fists expecting the worst. “ No they have not, and I have a feeling they won't be doing that anytime from now. Right now the Vaelor believe they have struck a diamond mine, not your daughter of course, you. That is if we look beyond the fact that they've made sure you are a wanted criminal among the wolves." “It has never been heard of that any werewolf excluding the Lycan kings could have a gift, I mean you are a werewolf, not a Lycan. It is one thing to find a werewolf with a gift, and it is another to find one with more than one gift. Even the Lycan kings don't have more than just one gift.“ Melissa chuckles her fingers tapping the file "I always knew you'd bring trouble my way one day, but then I have to say, this is the type of trouble I am not going to stay away from." Trouble? Hah! My life has been filled with nothing but trouble from the moment I got pregnant then...when everything fell apart. I pushed the memories threatening to flood my head into a box. Not now, I need to find my daughter. Melissa sighed her gaze pinned on the file. "The Vaelors have always been known as a power-hungry clan, a discovery like this is bound to make them more powerful, and because they lost their Lycan king two years ago...well it's no surprise they'd be even more desperate for power enough to want to use you; their sworn enemy." I shoved another memory threatening to surface back down. "I remember them saying my children were not one of their own for eight years. I remember them renouncing and putting a bounty on my head two years ago and now? They want me? They want her?" Anger bubbled in my veins. That damned clan… that damned b***h. She did this. Just like eight years ago. And again two years ago. I should have ripped her head off when I had the chance. I took a deep breath trying to calm myself “The gifts are only hereditary in cases of the Lycan kings, me having these gifts is literally a glitch, the fact that I have them doesn't mean she would.” Melissa chuckled her gaze turned up in amusement “Not even when her father was the Vaelor's Lycan king?” I flinched at those words fighting the memories threatening to escape harder “You know it doesn't matter, Liana is a girl. Most Lycan kings tend to be male alphas. While Liana Wolf could be an Alpha in the future, the gifts are exclusively for the Lycan Kings; Lycans alone. Her chances are low.” She chuckles again “Or not, everyone knows we currently have 8 Lycan left, two of the Vaelor's are completely gone, who knows, the moon goddess could show them mercy and pass down the Lycan gene to the last direct blood who is? Yep, your daughter.” I clenched my palm, my nails digging into it. f**k, Melissa was right regardless of whether I chose to acknowledge the truth or not. The Lycan kings. Heirs of Selene, the moon goddess, the ones cursed by Zeus, favoured by Selene. Hah…classic tale, Lycaon, the king of Arcadia tried to test Zeus by feeding him human flesh, got cursed and turned into a wolf; the first Lycan. Our history has it that Selene out of curiosity tried a reverse, this time around turning wolves into men, one that worked. She then out of mercy gave Lycaon a chance for redemption and helped him manage his curse to only transforming to his full Lycan form during the full moon, while also putting the wolves, now turned men under his charge. I took a deep breath pressing my fingertips to my forehead Packs and clans, every clan is made up of a large number of packs under each clan, in our world we have five clans. Each clan has a Lycan as its head while others are werewolves. The Lycan in turn births another Lycan. While a Lycan can have as many kids as they want, only one would have the Lycan gene while the rest would be werewolves. The one with the Lycan gene, now the Lycan prince in turn becomes the next Lycan king after his father. That's how the line continues. So at most, each clan only ever has two Lycans, the King and the Prince. Even worse, the Lycan gene latches randomly, it can skip the eldest child and fall on…hell the sixth child making the sixth child the successor. Liana's father…my former mate became the Lycan king after his father died, dnd now he's dead meaning the Vaelors have undoubtedly been struggling with power issues for two years now. “Her father has five siblings, the moon goddess should make a miracle happen and pick one of them, as a miracle happened with me.“ Well, my gifts are more of a curse than a miracle, I am not even a Lycan, they just happened after I died and came back to life…another unrealistic miracle that happened to me. Melissa pursed her lips before sighing, “Well even if Liana turns out to have the gene, that's she still has over a decade before they can find out, after all the Lycan gene awakens at 18 while normal wolves do at 16.“ “You are the gold mine right now Lyra, that's for sure, I've always wondered why they insisted on you being brought to them alive when the bounty was released two years ago. At first, I thought it was because you had to be brought before the wolf council to be punished for what happened then, but I guess we now know one of the reasons why.” “It's clear they are planning on using me” My words confirmed her statement, something she agreed with by nodding. “ I have to say I don't like this, Liana is clearly bait, you are the main deal” A small frown appeared on her brow. “I don't care, I am going to find my daughter and kill those bastards and I need to do it as fast as I can, the thought that she is all alone with them makes my skin crawl.” Melissa sighed for the hundredth time “Go to the address in the file and go over the information in it, you'll find the information quite enlightening, we'll discuss better tomorrow. The Vaelors wouldn't hurt her, at least not physically.“ I clenched my palm again, tomorrow sounded too far, too late, how can I rest easy when my daughter is with them “I mean it Lyra, get some rest, we need to draft up a proper plan and we can only do that if you're in your right senses.“ “You're right” I took a deep breath trying to shove down the fear rearing up. I won't lose another child, I just can't.
