I took a deep breath, trying to stop myself from pacing around the safe house. I was unable to sleep all night, how could I sleep when my daughter was in danger, far away from me?
I slumped into the chair looking around, it felt nothing like home, concrete floors, steel-reinforced doors, motion sensors tucked in corners. A few essential pieces of furniture—beds, chairs, and a kitchen table.
Well to be honest our home was more like this too except with more warmth and comfort.
Can I even call it home? My only home is my daughter, everywhere else was simply a temporary shelter.
We stopped having a permanent residence two years ago when a bounty was placed on my head, constantly moving around, using disguises, potions—
Speaking of disguises and potions, I made my way to the mirror grabbing a, makeup kit, contact lenses, and a potion with me.
I grimaced looking at the watery blue liquid, potions were made by witches. Unfortunately, they were nothing like the fairytale kind in books.
“No spells. No miracles. Definitely no turning people into frogs, they used more herbs and potions. “After all, the magic of the Gods has grown weaker in our current era.
Although there are rumours of some of their elites having prophetic abilities or seeing the dead. I prefer not to get deeply involved with the two other races, witches and vampires, I've had enough with the wolves.
I scrunched my nose and forced the potion down. “s**t! As always it tastes so terrible, sometimes I don't even want to think about what they use in making this.
The potion I just drank works for disguises. It messes with a person's physical features for as long as the potion effects last. While it doesn't affect the body system it forms some sort of distorted veil that gives you a very forgettable face.
Which is why I have, makeup and contacts to aid the potion. I stared at myself in front of the mirror, black hair is common, doesn't stand out, my face however…is beautiful enough to stand out yes, but what stood out most was the thin scar carved across my right cheek.”
Considering the weapon used and how deep the injury was then, a scar this thin is mercy. However, that is a recognisable feature, one I need the make-up to cover up.
I put on the makeup quickly my movements robotic, this wasn't to feel pretty, it was to simply conceal my face. I brought out the contact lenses after washing and cleaning my hands before staring right back at the silver grey eyes with a slight glow staring back at me.
My eyes.
They weren't always like this, my eyes were originally brown, a simple common dark brown, not hazel or light.
Then the change came eight years ago after I…After I died and woke up to my utter surprise.
The change was slow, not just my eyes, my face, my whole skin. Yes, I was pretty before then, but after I died and came back to life, it all changed completely.
An afterglow from death, as Melissa fondly says, due to my physical features changing I didn't need to use disguises then since no one in my past could recognize me, all I need was potions to mess with my scents made by witches of course.
Until two years ago, my palm clenched my nails biting into my palm, blood welling up. Haa, a bad habit of mine.
He recognized me back then, despite everything.
He never should have. Then all that wouldn't have happened, he wouldn't be dead…my son wouldn't be dead either and I wouldn't be currently wanted with my daughter taken from me.
Fuck. I put on a pair of blue contacts. My face on the bounty posters was my current appearance, without makeup.
If I want to get to my daughter, I can't go without covering myself properly.
My ears pricked up, catching the sound of a car a kilometer away, that's something I have to thank the Gift of Echo for. A gift that never should have been mine considering I wasn't a part of that clan.
I moved immediately to the small control panel blinking quietly on the wall, feeding live security feeds from cameras hidden outside. That car, it's definitely Melissa.
She steps into the safe house minutes later dressed in her usual elegant style, composed of a suit gown, and a hat.
“Hello Lyra, I'm glad to see you much better than yesterday.“
I nodded, getting straight to the point. “Did you check the trackers I told you about?
She sighs “I did Lyra, and unfortunately it has been destroyed, and we still have no definite location of where she is”
I slumped into the chair buried my fingers in my hair seconds away from pulling it out.
Ever since I lost my son two years I had a tracker placed on myself and Liana.
With Liana it was hidden in a bracelet I made her swear she'd never take off, of course I sneaked another into her earrings daily.
As for myself? I hid it inside my left arm and watched my injury heal over it.
I didn't do that to Liana then because I didn't want to hurt her. I should have. If I had, she wouldn’t be missing—
“Here” Melissa tossed a file to me as I caught it. “My men picked up these documents from the room where you were found with those doctors. After analyzing it we found out it contains the details of the tests and… the drug experimented on you.“
I narrowed my eyes reading through the file…those f*****g bastards!! It contained blood tests, and most importantly consistent application of a new drug they had just created. The Vaelor family does run a pharmaceutical company aimed at making drugs for werewolves most human medications tend not to work on us.
This led to them being in drug creation for all werewolves, every drug company for wolves under them. Making a new drug is nothing new, the question here is, what drug did they give me, the name or purpose isn't written in the file, just that I was administered a new drug.
“They had some vials of your blood left so I had them sent to some of our private doctors for tests, I'll let you know when you need to send a fresh sample.“
“Thank you.“ I whispered running my palm over my hair, all this and I still have zero clue on how they found me.
I turned to Melissa “Any news on how they found me? “
“Yes, as a matter of fact, I do, but before that Lyra, I have a question…what do you intend to do?“
I sat up straight my gaze pinned on her “I intend to find my daughter.“
“And then what? You run and hide? Change your name? Would it really be so easy to start over again?“
Now this was a huge question, one I already answered and made up my mind on.
“No, I can't keep running Mel, it won't help anymore.“ As long as the Vaelors existed, as long as that b***h who calls herself the current matriarch exists—that b***h who was my mother-in-law exists, my daughter and I would always have to look over our backs.
Not to mention, my revenge, it's been so long, so many years but I can't hold back anymore.
“I’m going to erase the Vaelors from history. I’m going to kill every last one of them.”
“The Clan or the family itself?“ She asked raising her eyes amused.
“The family itself”
She bursts into laughter “Mad, you are completely insane, no…even a clinically insane man wouldn't say this, did killing a Lycan really give you that much confidence? to go against the whole family?”
She pinned me with a cold gaze “You made it clear then, he never fought with you which is possibly because he couldn't bring himself to hurt you. Now you think you can take on the whole family? The whole pack? The whole clan?
“Fighting with the family means fighting with their pack, and since they are a family of Lycan kings, it means fighting the whole Clan!“
I stared right back at head on
“I am well aware of what I'm saying, Mel.“
She chuckles “Hah, I want to believe you're just being crazy but then, that look, it’s the same determined look you had when we first met eight years ago.“
She sighs “You do realize the organization can't join you on this don't you, you are going against a whole clan, the organization would never get itself involved in this.“
The organization, the mercenary organization I worked for under Melissa.
“I know, this is a risk I am ready to take myself.”
She chuckled at me and sat down tossing another envelope at me
“You'll need all the information you can get then. This is all the information we have on the Vaelors, and you will find the answer to some of your questions there too.”
“I'll try to convince the two others so you can get the organization's full support of the organization.” She smirks “You are organization wolf faction ace, my perfect ace, whatever you do. You're not allowed to die, got it?”
“Yes, Mel” I brought out the documents in the file, it was time to stop running.
