CHAPTER EIGHT Late afternoon, they arrive at the tavern in Gerene. They tie the horses to the posts outside. Grabbing a few pieces, they hide the packs of gold under hay in the corner of Shadow’s stall. Crysta sleeps on Chess’ saddle. Sarah looks back at her before they walk into the tavern. Pushing open the swinging doors, everyone inside stops drinking and looks up at them. Hesitating for a second, they walk to an empty table and sit. A slim woman stares at them through close-set narrow eyes. She walks up to them, hands on her hips. Her hip long hair falls across her left shoulder.
