CHAPTER FOUR From the darkness emerges a big, black paw. Long claws scrape the ground. Deep trenches follow. Peter and Sarah stand there, unable to move, as the beast comes into the light. It rears up, standing a good ten feet tall, if not taller. It roars. Landing hard, it slaps up mud and water in its wake. Snorting, it approaches. Sarah looks at Peter. Already three steps ahead, he walks backwards, straining to stay slow and deliberate. Sarah watches him, whispering. “I thought you said this cave was abandoned.” Her heart beats in her ears as she tries to match his steps.
