Chapter 2: Stay... And Be Mine

I didn't sleep that night.

How do you sleep when you find out your roommate sleeps in a coffin?

By 6 AM, I had my bags packed. The $3000 was still on the table. Blood money.

I was done.

But when I opened the front door... it wouldn't budge.

Locked. From the outside.

"Adrian?" My voice shook. "Let me out."

Silence.

Then his voice came from behind me. Cold. Amused.

"I told you. Leave before sunrise. It's 6:01 AM."

I spun around. He was standing there in the same black suit from last night. No dark circles. No tiredness. Perfect. Too perfect.

"You trapped me," I whispered.

"I protected you," he corrected. "The sun is up. If you walked out, you'd be seen. And humans who see me... don't live long."

My knees felt weak. "You're a monster."

"Yes," he agreed. "And you're still here."

He walked to the kitchen and opened the fridge. Pulled out a carton of milk. Mine.

"You drank it," I accused.

"I did," he said, pouring it into a glass. But he didn't drink. He just stared at it. "I was testing if I could. I can't."

He set the glass down and looked at me. Those black eyes.

"Rule number 4," he said.

"I didn't agree to a rule number 4."

"You will." He stepped closer. I backed away until my back hit the wall.

"Stay," he said softly. "And be mine. I will keep you safe. Rich. Anything you want. In return... you let me feed. Once a week. Just a little."

My heart was pounding so loud I was sure he could hear it.

"Or?" I asked.

"Or I let you go. And someone else finds you. Someone not as... gentle as me."

Outside, I heard footsteps. Someone was at our door.

Adrian's expression changed. Danger.

"Don't make a sound," he whispered. "That is a vampire hunter. And if he finds me here with you..."

He didn't finish.

He just pulled me into his arms and pressed a finger to my lips.

The door started to shake.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

"Open up! Stary Security!"

Adrian looked at me. For the first time, he looked scared.

"Choose, Mia. Now."
