The Nightmare

Edith had noticed how fast Julian was growing. Barely a month old, and the little lad was already walking like a one-year-old—and he was nearly a metre tall! Ashley had told her it was normal for supernatural children. They aged much faster than regular humans. She spotted Julian sitting on the carpet in her room. Smiling, she knelt down beside him. “My little caramel,” she said gently, “look what I’ve got for you.” In her hand was a shiny Hot Wheels car. Julian’s face lit up, and within seconds, the toy had magically shifted into his small hands. “Do you like it?” she asked. He simply nodded. Julian wasn’t much of a talker. It wasn’t that he couldn’t speak—he just preferred using gestures to communicate. Their moment was interrupted when Seth barged in, making a beeline for Julian.
