/7/ THE MARRIAGE AND THE BARGAIN

1300 Words
"Why should we trust you? What if you will end up getting our men in trouble?" The chief roared.  With guns pointing at his throat, he spoke, "I unquestionably value my life. That's why I wouldn't wish to betray you. Your chances of assassinating me are much more than me getting the chance to get you in any sort of trouble." The chief put a little thought to what the man claimed, and then asked, "What do you wish for in return?"  "J… Just leave her." The look in his eyes suddenly changed, from contentious to the delicate one.  The chief, being human, considered their species to be monstrous, and incapable of feeling. That was particularly the reason why he was stunned at that moment.  "Whom are you referring to, fiend?" The chief was curious to know if the creature's actions were motivated by self-interest or his genuine care for a potential partner, since he asked to exclude a particular female while attacking their town.  Dimitri finally raised his head, and muttered, "Venus … my Venus. She is going to become the luna soon. I want you to let her off the hook while attacking the town." The chief first gestured his men to put down his gun, and then let out a loud chuckle. The chief seemed perplexed, "You're actually persuading the destruction of your own clan for the sake of a woman? Interesting. I don't understand if I should consider you a monster for devouring your own clan, or even more human for doing it for the sake of your love."  Dimitri stood quiet through it.  The chief was impressed with the lonely wolf's foolishness and assured him, "The bargain has been settled. Lead us to your town, and we will follow you."  Dimitri conceded with a nod, and the men prepared their weapons for the same.  Meanwhile, in the village, all the preparations regarding the wedding were made. Venus had put on a white gown and covered her face with a veil. The little girls from the village had gathered in her room to get her ready for the marriage.  As her mother entered her room, her breath was taken away while glancing at the bride. Venus indeed appeared as beautiful as a nymph descended from heaven. The woman cupped her daughter's cheek while tears brimmed in her eyes.  "You look so beautiful, dear. I can't believe the day has finally come when you’ll walk into a new future, leaving us all behind." Venus wiped the woman's tears away and placed a tender kiss on her cheek.  "Mother, I will be fine." Venus’ assurance didn’t seem to work as her mother didn’t fear that she was to get married, she feared the absence of her daughter in her daily life.  The old lady glowed and explained, "I am not worried about that. I know you're strong enough to handle this. I'm worried about us. How are we going to live without seeing you everyday?"  Venus responded affectionately, "I will be visiting you every day after my work in the library. You will see me every day, mother"  Venus then leaned in a little, and let her mother kiss her forehead. The old woman soon parted to get the caravan ready while the whole room was filled with giggles and laughter. Venus herself rejoiced after observing the gaiety at that moment and crossed her fingers in the hope that everything will go well.  Shortly, the underlings of the alpha arrived to escort her to the wedding venue through the caravan.  She followed through the instructions laid by the Alpha, and reached the church shortly. As she heard the sound of the bells, she felt an odd uneasiness.  "Why am I getting nervous now?" Venus clenched her dress with her fingers and prayed everything to be go well. She, accordingly, got out of the caravan, and walked gradually with her hand intertwined in her father's hand.  The crowd gasped in awe. They had never paid much attention to the woman before, but their luna was, in fact, an angel in disguise.  Her beauty charmed everyone in the crowd. While everyone gawked at her, her gaze was fixated on the man standing on the isle.  The handsome and beautiful Adonis. The man due to whom she was the envy of all the women in the town. With a gentle smile, he glared at his beautiful bride who had tears welling up in her eyes.  Just when her father let go of her hand, Adonis stretched his hand towards her and pulled her up on the platform where he was standing.  It was the perfect wedding, the guests thought. The groom was the alpha Adonis, the strongest wolf among all the persisting packs. The bride, Venus, a beautiful woman from a humble background whose beauty was talk among men of all ages. Anyone could tell the couple was truly and deeply in love.  As she settled on the platform, the pastor began chanting some profound words, and then instructed them to take their vows. They did so while peeping into each other's eyes.  As their vows came to an end, they both were asked if they desire to be with one another under the holy reunion. to which they responded with an, "I do." The pastor then permitted the alpha to claim his bride. He grabbed her by her jaw and kissed her lips in front of everyone. All the planets, all the people, and all gods and goddesses witnessed their union.  As he let go of her, the crowd cheered for their new Luna. Venus, on the contrary, finally let a tear slide down her cheek.  "This is not the day for tears, Venus," Adonis declared while holding her firmly by her waist. "From today, I will make sure to make you happy every day. I love you, Venus."  For which, Venus responded by placing a kiss on his cheek. As they were about the get into the caravan, a messenger came running to the wedding ground. While panting, he let out, "Alpha Adonis, we have been attacked."  Alpha stood stunned as he spoke, "Attacked? From where? Soldiers are surveying the boundaries of our town, right?"  "F… From the abandoned coal mines that lie in the Dark forest of Bransville.  "Then, let's head to the place from where the intruders managed to appear here," Adonis instructed.  He finally let go of Venus' hand and went away announcing, "Wait for me at the mansion while I take care of the matter." Before leaving, he turned back to get a glimpse of his bride, and then he got on the horseback and rode off to the cave to stop the intruders from entering the town.  Venus reminded herself the things that Dimitri had taught her regarding being corageous. Consequently, she did as was told and asked to be taken to the mansion directly. The man glanced at her as he spoke, "I am afraid of dying, Luna. What if we spotted them on our way?"  She raised her dress a little and took out a pointy sword that she had tied on to her 'roll garters.' “Nothing will happen to you until the Alpha and I are alive. We will gladly give our lives for the people pf our town.” She reassured. The man admired the woman that had been chosen as their Luna, and confirmed, "Please get inside the caravan, Luna Venus. I will take you to the mansion." ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~  AUTHOR’S NOTE ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Show your love and support to the author by adding this book to your library.  Thank You.
