Chapter 9 |VALERIO|   “Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?”, Yolanda asked while getting up to retrieve something from the corner of the room and returning back to the floor across from me. Her eyes had changed colors and from deep brown they had turned a light caramel color with yellow spirals swirling in circles. “A creature as dark as the evil energies which gave birth to it started roaming the earth thousands of years ago. It would devour villages, communities, killing men and r****g women before fleeing with the speed of the fear it spread.” “The first Malus.”, I whispered and I could feel the shivers on my skin. The Mali no longer existed, hundreds of years ago a short-lived union between the four clans made sure of that. “To battle the Malus which was destroying the human race piece by piece, village by village, while laying its seed in the women it touched, the spirits in the Otherworld sacrificed themselves in order to create the first Triad. The spirits could only do as much as to release their mystical energy into our realm, so to direct it into the existence of a single human being, they used the power and guidance of the Cetus constellation." I had no idea where this was going but something told me I should not interrupt Yolanda and hear her out. "When the alignment of the stars was completed, a stream of spiritual energy poured from the sky and searched for its host. All of the spirits in the Otherworld were already sacrificed and lost except for one. It observed as the energy kept searching, scouring the lands beneath for a host. Time was running out and if the alignment of the stars was lost, the energy would be too.” Numb, all I could do was stay silent while Yolanda spoke, her eyes locked with mine, the yellow in them turning even brighter. “At last, the mystical energy sensed a presence, a host. A small village, still untouched by the wrath of the Malus, was laying on the border between land and water. The last spirit, not yet lost to the sacrifice, watched the energy swirl in the air and latch to a man fallen on the ground, covered in blood. The first Aberra, that was, the first male Triad.”. Yolanda stopped talking for a moment and researched my face as chills passed through my body. “Petrified that the fallen human would not survive the merge with the spiritual energy, the last spirit dissolved and crossed the realms between the Worlds, latching to the closest human being in the very same moment the spiritual energy merged with the man.” Taking a deep breath, she continued. “The last spirit had merged with a newborn baby girl, Valerio.”, the woman said and looked at me expectedly. “So, the first Triads were created at the exact same moment”, I said with my throat dry and my voice husky. “Yes. While a new life was welcomed into the world as another one was almost lost under the alignment of the stars.” I held my breath trying to wrap my mind around all of this. What the hell was going on?! “This is not all, Valerio.” “Wait, there is more?”, I could not believe it. I was already at my limits to take anything else that would change my whole world. “Yes. Decades later, the She-wolf met the first Triad. They were drawn to each other, in a way they could not explain. They were destined to be together, not only by the stars but also the energy they bore – the pure energy of the spirits who sacrificed themselves to create them.  They were never together, though. You see, they both had already found their partners, so their love died with them, unconsumed”. I narrowed my brows in even more confusion. “But everyone believed Aberra was the only first Triad because the She-wolf was just a baby when she became one? And because Aberra found a way to turn more people into Triads by feeding them his blood, nobody guessed the She-Wolf was one of the firsts. And I guess she didn’t show any signs of being supernatural until years later?”, I asked, trying to put an order to my spinning thoughts and change the topic as for some reason the story of my first predecessor and his destined mate was terrifying me. “Yes, but you are missing the point, Valerio.”, Yolanda smiled as if she knew I was avoiding the question on purpose. “And what point is that, exactly, and how the hell do you know all of this?”, I got frustrated and raised my voice. “You will see the point in a bit. I know all of this because it was my bloodline and their strong connection to the Otherworld that carried the knowledge of the She-wolf and the reason she and the first male Triad were brought together. And I am the only one from my bloodline who was born with Reading powers, made to deliver the Prophecy that brought you and your She-wolf together.” My chest was tightening with the pressure of the truth. I was doubtful I could take any more of this. But Yolanda kept looking into my eyes with a smile playing on the corner of her lips. “Twenty two years ago, on fourth of April I lost my powers while you, Valerio, were on the edge between life and death.” “The attack on the Tower.”, I whispered remembering these moments. “Yes.”, Yolanda confirmed and held her breath. I could feel the reason she asked me to come here tonight was about to be revealed. “It was also fourth of April, thousands of years ago, when the first two Triads came to life.” Shocked, my fingers got a grip of the edge of the table in front of me, threatening to break it. “At the moment when your spirit was at crossroads, I spelled my last prophecy. Also at that moment, the heir of the She-wolf came to life. And also at that moment, the Cetus constellation was aligned in the sky. History repeated itself, do you see that?”, Yolanda asked impatiently, her voice growing quicker. “Yes.”, I whispered again, fear settling in my heart. Yolanda’s eyes were now almost entirely yellow. I could not understand why as she had clearly lost her powers twenty two years ago. With a deep voice, she recited her last prophecy to me. “When he runs beneath the stars Trying to catch a mourning scarred She-wolf destined for his guard Green meets blue And blood is drawn But not in full Darkness beckons and gives birth  Once again as The heir runs Trying to catch her While the sun Meets the stars And paints the path Four four four four The stars align In the clear sky Claiming him and her As the heirs of the firsts Born to battle darkness long gone But reborn” Yolanda exhaled deeply as if she was holding a breath the entire time. The yellow in her eyes started to darken and disappear. “I have a very good guess you know exactly what this prophecy is about, Valerio.” A sparkle caught my eye and I looked down at the table to see an engagement ring laying on the surface.
