Chapter 5 Being Wanted

971 Words
I never expected to hear something like that from Ethan. 'By the Moon Goddess, in an age where even werewolves don't believe in "destined mates," there's still a human who does? And not just any human—a Hollywood star surrounded by stunning men and women, with a body and charm that even I find hard to resist! But having someone like him all to myself would be a crime!' "Mr. Hawke, you don't actually believe that kind of thing, do you?" "Why not?" Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Maybe we really are perfect for each other." "Perfect?" I pulled out a stack of documents from my bag and placed them in front of Ethan. "Take a closer look at what these say." Ethan picked up the papers, and I watched his face closely, searching for any sign of a reaction. What I handed him were my other eight marriage contracts, each one with the name Alina West on the bride's side, but with different grooms' names. "Surprised?" For some reason, I felt a strange satisfaction, like I had won an invisible battle. "Let me tell you the truth—I signed nine of these contracts when I was a kid." Ethan looked slightly taken aback. I waited, hoping to see shock, anger, or even embarrassment on his face... But this superstar failed me. "So, I've got eight 'competitors'?" He leaned back in his chair, a playful smile on his lips, almost looking eager for this "competition." "Yeah..." I stared at him in disbelief, unable to find a trace of negative emotion on that perfect face. "Don't you feel offended?" I couldn't help but prompt him. "I'm engaged to nine people at the same time!" "But now you're trying to break off those engagements." Ethan pointed out, astutely. He leaned in closer, propping his elbows on the armrests of the lounge chair, moving towards me. The distance between us vanished in an instant, and I could feel his warm breath on my neck, laced with a faint hint of alcohol and an intoxicating masculine scent. "You can start by canceling the other eight. As for me..." His voice was low and seductive. "I'll be here, waiting for you to come back and marry me." With that, he got up and effortlessly dived into the pool. 'This human man had just boldly proposed to a werewolf alpha! Does he even know that if I bit his neck, this Hollywood heartthrob wouldn't be sleeping with anyone else ever again?' I had thought that breaking off these engagements would be a simple task. I never imagined that two of my fiancés in a row would shatter that illusion. Just then, Ethan's agent, Jack, walked over. "Ethan, Officer Miller is here. He said he has some questions for you." Ethan nodded, stepping out of the pool and slipping on a robe. Before he left, he came over to me, leaned down, and whispered in my ear, "If you'd like to start our honeymoon early tonight, I'd be happy to oblige." I shot him a glare and made a move to kick him, but he dodged with a grin and walked away laughing. 'What an infuriating guy!' I fumed as I packed the marriage contract back into the leather pouch and left the pool area. Back in my hotel room, I absentmindedly turned on the TV while searching for clothes to take a shower. The news was playing, and I wasn't paying much attention until one headline caught my eye. "Police are on the lookout for a female suspect involved in an assault at Mr. Liam Spencer's residence. Surveillance footage shows..." The screen displayed a figure lurking outside Liam's villa. The face was unclear, but I instantly recognized myself. 'I'm... wanted?!' I froze, my heart skipping a beat. 'Damn it! I forgot about the cameras outside the gate!' I quickly turned off the TV and threw on a hoodie and jeans, pulling the hood low over my face to conceal most of it. 'I had to get out of here, fast!' I grabbed my bag, skipped checking out, and left the hotel as quickly as possible. ***** Noah's Perspective: On the rooftop, I watched the girl take down the criminal with such precision that I couldn't help but be impressed. But... something about her build and her hair seemed familiar. A flash of last night's surveillance footage from the Liam Spencer assault case ran through my mind. The figure's size and agility were eerily similar to the girl standing right in front of me! 'Could she be the one who attacked the congressman?' I stepped forward, questioning her, "Who are you?" "Alina West," she replied, with a hint of pride in her voice. 'Alina West?!' I'd known since childhood that I had a fiancée by that name! I'd never met her, though. I always thought it was some ridiculous joke and never seriously considered that I might actually marry her. But if... if she really was my fiancée and possibly the suspect in the congressman's assault... But then, Ethan's agent led her away, mentioning that the superstar wanted to talk to her. I watched her leave, my thoughts in a whirl. I spent half an hour confirming that she was indeed the person the NYPD was searching for. I immediately decided to confront Ethan. "You're saying Ms. West is a wanted criminal?" Ethan reacted with an exaggerated look of surprise. "Yes, I invited her over to discuss some personal matters, but she left quickly, and I have no idea where she went." I scanned the room, not finding any sign of Alina, and had no choice but to leave. But I didn't believe for a second that Ethan knew nothing. She saved his life! Hollywood star or not, Ethan, I'm going to keep my eyes on you!'
