Chapter 10 A Dangerous Trip

938 Words
I recognized him the moment I saw him on the sidelines. Oliver Green, the NFL star. He had it all—championship titles, rugged good looks, mysterious green eyes, a strong jawline, sensual lips, and a body that was pure muscle, with a head of golden hair that sparkled in the sun. He was practically a walking hormone. His football skills were legendary, but what really kept him in the spotlight was his endless string of romances and countless tabloid covers. Social media was constantly buzzing with photos of him at clubs and hotels, always with a new model or actress on his arm. A guy like him was never single for long. "Today, we've got a star player here for a training game," Chris had mentioned earlier. I hadn't realized it would be Oliver. There he was, wearing the home team's red jersey, standing on the sidelines with a sharp, focused look as he surveyed the field. Occasionally, he leaned in to discuss strategy with the coach. He was a far cry from the flashy scoring machine you saw on TV—right then, he looked every bit the serious coach. A thought crossed my mind. 'This guy's such a player. There's no way he's interested in marriage. Why didn't I think to approach him about ending our engagement first?' Just as I was considering this, a commotion broke out on the field. I looked closer and saw Chris on the ground, clutching his ankle, clearly in pain. My heart skipped a beat. 'Oh, no... Did he break something?' I jumped up, ready to run over to him, but the students around me held me back. "Don't worry. The medics are already there." "Yeah, calm down. He'll be fine." I frowned, watching anxiously as the medics examined Chris. His teammates gathered around, looking concerned. After a quick check, the coach signaled for a substitution, and Chris was carried off the field on a stretcher. I couldn't hold back any longer. I pushed past everyone and rushed to Chris' side. "How are you feeling? Are you okay?" I asked, worried. Chris' face was pale, and sweat beaded on his forehead. He gritted his teeth, trying to tough it out. "I'm fine, just a sprain. I'll be back on my feet in a few days. It's embarrassing, though, letting you see me like this..." "You did great out there!" I reassured him, relieved that it wasn't something more serious. Just then, Oliver sauntered over. With a lazy grin, he looked down at Chris and said in a cocky tone, "Next time, try not to get hurt so easily. Football's a tough game. If you can't handle it, maybe you should stick to something safer." His words dripped with condescension, like Chris' injury was just a joke to him. I felt my temper flare and glared up at him. "What's that supposed to mean? Are you blaming him for getting hurt?" Oliver raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by my reaction. He looked me over, his smile widening with interest. "Well, well, aren't you feisty? I'm just telling it like it is. Injuries happen—if you can't deal with that, you should go home and play with dolls." "Are you seriously underestimating women right now?" His arrogant tone pissed me off, and I grabbed him by the collar before I could think twice. "What the hell are you doing!?" "Let go of him!" "Do you know who he is!?" Ignoring the gasps and shouts around me, I pulled my go-to move—a perfect over-the-shoulder throw that sent Oliver, easily twice my weight, crashing to the ground. But Oliver wasn't just any guy. His reflexes were sharp, and before I knew it, he was already trying to get back up! I pinned him back down, straddling his waist and looking him dead in the eye. I took a deep breath, trying to calm the anger boiling inside me. I was about to give him a piece of my mind when I remembered—this arrogant jerk was one of my fiancés. Since he was right there, why not take the chance to break off the engagement? The only problem was... I hadn't brought the contract with me today. Regaining my composure, I stared straight into Oliver's eyes and asked coolly, "Which hotel are you staying at tonight? I'll come find you." "What?" Oliver and Chris exclaimed simultaneously, both shocked. "Alina?! Are you serious?" Chris looked hurt. "Why him? Why not me?!" "What's the matter? Afraid to tell me where you're staying?" I ignored Chris' pained expression and pressed Oliver for an answer. "No, just..." Oliver lay on the ground, still catching his breath, his cat-like green eyes gleaming with amusement as he looked up at me. "I'm just surprised you'd want to come to my place in a situation like this, no less... But sure, you're gorgeous and strong, so I'll play along." I couldn't be bothered to explain that it wasn't what he thought it was. "Just tell me your hotel." Oliver's grin widened. He leaned in closer to my ear, his voice dropping to a seductive whisper. "Are you sure you want to come to my room tonight? It can be a pretty dangerous trip, especially for a beautiful woman like you." He lingered on the word "dangerous," his suggestive tone making it clear what he had in mind. I slid off him and met his gaze with a smirk. "Dangerous? I'd like to see just how dangerous you can be." He sat up, still breathing heavily, and chuckled. "Good. The Four Seasons, room 506. I'll be waiting."
