Thanos was a different story, because they were in a random running space battle with an enemy flotilla. Their mission was to keep that flotilla from closing with and destroying the debarking troop transports, where Kazimir was landing. The odds of randomly coordinating a foreign power's naval escorted supply convoy entry into a system after a fifteen day jump, to land on top of Thanos would have required a ridiculous amount of impossible planning, foresight, and omniscient-fortune-telling-coordination that no sane person could ever believe was possible. Thanos' death was just dumb luck, it had to be.
