CHAPTER 19 Next morning I laid Liliad very carefully inside the suitcase fashioning my cashmere sweater into a pillow for her head and carefully positioning her strings down either side of her body so there was little chance of them tangling on route. ‘I’m sorry you’ve got to travel hidden again but I daren’t take the risk of drawing attention to myself and you always attract so much attention.’ I stroked her cheek as I stared down into her wide, clear eyes; the irises as green as ivy looked back at me, the pupils dilated and black as pitch, holding my reflection in their viscous depths.
