CHAPTER ONE
The morning sun, pierced through the thin curtains directly at Aiyanna's face. She opened her eyes slowly, her eyelids felt so heavy. Her head throbbed with a full ache and her entire body felt drained and heavy. She hadn't slept up to two hours. She couldn't sleep,the entire night had just been hours of tossing and turning. Her mind was completely consumed by anxiety of resuming work. The pressure of finally getting to earn money and become responsible, had kept her thoughts racing in a relentless, exhausting loop until she could finally sleep
Trying to shake off the deep, suffocating fatigue, Aiyanna forced herself out of the bed. Her body felt so heavy that every step felt like walking through deep water. She went straight to the bathroom , brushed her teeth and took a warm bath.
She came out all refreshed and lighter. After applying her body lotion, she went straight to the wardrobe where she hung the outfit she prepared. It was a brown button down shirt paired with a black pleated skirt.
After putting them on ,she walked to the mirror and smiled in satisfaction of how she looked. Though it wasn't expensive or even new , but it was beautiful and it gave her a modest and elegant look.
She quickly picked up her bag. Just as she was about to open the door, the door suddenly opened. It was her sister Chloe.
"Good morning sweetie"Chloe said smiling
"Good morning Chloe, how do I look" Aiyanna said smiling as she turned around
"You look amazing, but I think this will suit you more" Chloe said as she stretched out a blue box
"What's this"Aiyanna asked as she took the box
"Why don't you see for yourself"Chloe said
With trembling hands, Aiyanna opened the box,
untied the ribbon and removed the crisp paper.
Inside of the box, was a stunning, undeniable expensive dress. The fabric was luxurious, perfectly tailored, It was a kind of professional clothing Aiyanna only dreamt of owning
Aiyanna couldn't speak she just stood not knowing if she should cry or laugh. But she couldn't accept this gift, it was too expensive. They were barely able to pay some bills. Living without parents, their small family of three managed on on the little income her siblings earn. They can't get a good job, because they were only able to finish high school. Her siblings worked very hard to make sure she finished college.
"No, Chloe I can't take this.We are barely surviving, it's too expensive,I can't take it" Aiyanna said as she stretched her arms, giving the box back to Chloe
"Why? Levon and I worked really hard and saved to get you this dress"Chloe said pushing back the box
"Exactly why I can't accept it. We are barely surviving and you guys have been working so hard to make sure I get everything I need. Which I appreciate you guys for, but you and Levon need money more than me right now. I've finally gotten a job and a good paying one at that. I should be the one getting you clothes not the other way round."Aiyanna said as she struggled so hard to hold back her tears
Chloe just smiled and said "Then, are you going to let our hard work go to waste ,when U start earning, you can do all of that but for now, change into this"
"I promise to make you guys proud. When I get my pay check, I'll take you and Levon out for dinner and lunch and buy you guys nice clothes."Aiyanna said as she let the tears she has been trying so hard to hold back,fall freely.
Chloe pulled her into a warm hug and patted her back. When Aiyanna finally stopped crying,she pulled out from the hug ,then wiped her tears then said
"Come on , You don't want to have swollen eyes on the first day of work right? Just change into this clothes. Okay?"
Aiyanna nodded gently as she picked up the dress and went to change into it
After she changed she came out. Chloe was left speechless. The dress fitted her so well, revealing her body curves. She looked effortlessly but elegantly beautiful.
"How do I look Chloe?" Aiyanna asked as she walked towards Chloe
"You look stunningly beautiful, the dress fits you so well"Chloe said smiling
"Really?"Aiyanna asked
"Come see for yourself" Chloe said as she turned Aiyanna to the mirror so she could see herself
"Wow! The dress is so nice and I look good in it."Aiyanna said
"I know. right?"Chloe said
"Thank you so much sis. I love you so much" Aiyanna said as she hugged Chloe tightly.
"I love you too my angel" Chloe said
"Aiyanna, you're going to be late if you don't go now"Chloe said as she pulled out from Aiyanna's tight grip.
"Oh, right" Aiyanna said as she picked up her bag , put on her wrist watch and her necklace.
As she looked at the time,she exclaimed
" Wow, Chloe I need to go now, if not I'm going to miss my train."Aiyanna said as she dashed out
"But you haven't even eaten breakfast"Chloe said
"I get my self something on the way. Love you, bye " Aiyanna said as she hurriedly left
"Love you too" Chloe said softly to her self.
