All the tiredness that the trip was supposed to bring came upon Lucy immediately, along with an unbearable urge to throw up. She barely made it out of the room before she threw up what she had had on the plane earlier, and quite violently too. She continued to retch even after there was nothing left in her stomach to throw up, and it felt like her intestines and guts were going to be the next thing to be on the hotel floor. A hand patted her back gently and moved her hair away from her hair. When she finally got her retching under control and looked up, she saw that Robert was the owner of the hand. Fighting the urge to start another fresh bout of puking, she jerked away from him and almost slipped, gratified to see a cleaner heading their way with stuff to clean up the mess she had made.
“Lucy. Are you okay?” Robert asked sympathetically.
“What are you doing in my hotel room?” Lucy spat without answering his question. Somehow, she did not feel as drained as she was supposed to feel, and she was grateful for that fact. The sight of Robert lying on top and kissing an almost totally n***d Amanda passionately refused to leave her head, though. In fact, she was sure that it was not something that she would forget in a hurry, no matter how much she wished she could wipe her memory clean of it. It felt like her world as she knew it had gone topsy-turvy, but that was probably because it indeed had.
“Your hotel room? I don’t understand…” He began, confusion clouding his eyebrows.
“Are you daft and stupid, as well as a lying son of a b***h?” She asked. Amanda appeared at that moment with a handkerchief and handed it to Lucy to wipe her mouth with. The latter stared her down with contempt and ignored the proffered handkerchief.
“Look, I know you’re mad at me, Lucy. Hell, I’m mad at myself too and if I could change the hands of time, I gladly would. However, there’s now a child involved. I’ve always wanted a child. You know that, Lucy. I can't abandon my child, and Amanda's right. The doctor said that it was too risky for her to have another abortion.” Robert explained weakly. Amanda stood in front of the room, not meeting Lucy’s eyes.
“You’d have to go back in time for two whole years and may not be able to find your slimy way back, so you had better stay in your sad reality. You know what? Just stop with the lies and get the f**k out of my hotel room.” Lucy said wearily, finally getting up from the floor of the corridor, where she had sat in an undignified position after emptying the contents of her stomach.
"I'm sorry for the mess." She added to the hotel cleaner, who hurriedly assured her that it was not a problem at all, and went on his way after cleaning up. Lucy wiped at the seat of her pants and went back into the room to see that they had even started arranging their stuff in the room.
“Didn’t you get the check?” Amanda asked. It was the first time she was speaking. Lucy stared at her with more than a little sadness. It was amazing how love could change to hate so fast. She could barely stand the sight of both of them, these two people whom she once loved so dearly, but who had hurt and betrayed her so badly.
“What check?”
“I mailed back the amount that you spent on the vacation to you. We even included the flight money, even though you told us you were still coming. You didn’t get the check?” Amanda explained while Robert stood by looking extremely uncomfortable. He looked like someone who was highly constipated.
“You mailed the check without informing me? How the hell was I supposed to know? So, you’re trying to tell me that after ruining my life, the both of you plan to send me to an early grave too? Why would you even bring her here, especially knowing that I was still going to come, Robert? You should have told me about this and I would not have bothered to come at all. God! Someone tell me I’m dreaming.” Lucy exhaled, sitting heavily on the bed beside Amanda’s large b*a and rubbing her forehead wearily while making a very conscious effort not to cry. She refused to give these assholes the satisfaction.
“I wanted to call you about it, but you blocked both of us, Lucy. I did send an email informing you about it, though. Besides, I thought that you’ll get it.” Amanda defended herself.
“So what do you expect me to do now?” Lucy asked. This vacation was fast turning into a nightmare.
“I think there are still free rooms in this hotel. I can go downstairs and check.” Robert offered eagerly, anxious to distance himself from all of this.
“I don’t want anything from you. You know what? You can have the room. I’ll just go back home. I’m not cut out for all this nonsense. Oh, and by the way, Robert, maybe you should inform your mother of your philandering ways, so she can stop calling me. I don’t have the heart to block her, and the last time I talked to her, she clearly did not know about all this. I want to put everything about you behind me as fast as possible.” Lucy said, fast losing the battle not to cry. She needed to hightail it out of here fast before she lost it totally.
“No, it’s alright, Lucy. You can have the room. Amanda and I will just find another place. I’m really sorry that any of this happened, and I hope that one day, you’ll forgive me.” Robert began, but Lucy shook her head. There was no way she was sleeping in this bed after she had seen them almost have s*x on it.
“I’m leaving, and please, I need to stop seeing you both everywhere I go. You disgust me.” She finished and began to drag her luggage away with her from the hotel. She made it as far as the elevator before she burst into silent sobs, and then went out of the hotel with her luggage, not caring about the weird stares people were giving her as she passed by them. She would find a hotel to lodge for the night, and then book the first flight out of here so that she could go home and lick her wounds in peace. Yet for how long would she keep running away from these people? She did not have an answer to that.
Feeling really depressed, she sat in the reception and called her immediate younger sister, who was the only person from her family that knew about the breakup, and told her what had happened.
“Are they crazy? Damn it! If only I was rich, I would book the first flight out of there and tear them a new one. I can’t believe Amanda. She’s such a b***h! I hope her baby comes out with two heads, four arms, and four legs.” Nancy fumed over the phone, immediately causing Lucy to smile through her tears. Her sister never ceased to make her feel better. It was such a shame that they lived far away from each other.
“Anyway, that’s what I’m going through here. I just needed someone to talk to.”
“Don’t mind them, Lucy. Just ignore them and enjoy your vacation.”
“I can’t. I have a feeling that I will keep running into them, and I don’t want that. I’m going back home.” Lucy told her sister dejectedly.
“That’s sad. You’ve been looking forward to this vacation since forever. I hate the two of them with a passion.”
“I know. Anyway, I have to go now. I’ve got to find a hotel to stay for the night. Bye.”
“Bye, Lucy, and please, I know it’s hard, but please try not to think about it too much, okay?”
“Sure. I’ll try.” Lucy said and hung up the phone, just as someone sank into the seat beside her. Somehow, she was not surprised when she looked up with her tear-stained face and saw that it was Eric.
