Reyna had just managed to jump into the crowd in line waiting for the Baia Dei Bucanieri, Victoria and Isaac in tow. Hidden among the crowd of panicking people, they manage to make it to Ghiotto West without stopping. Victoria stumbles along and Isaac keeps in pace.
“I believe we should be fine, if for the time being.” Reyna ushers the kids into the delicacies shop. “Are you alright, Lady Victoria? Would you like a break?”
“Yes, please.” Victoria manages, breathing heavily from running.
“Isaac, what about you?”
“I’m fine.”
Reyna guides the children to a table as she pulls out a revolver from her purse and hides it in the folds of her red plaited skirt as she sits with them.
“Lady Victoria, what are your parents like? Who do they associate with?”
“I- uh, I- I don’t know. They know Isaac’s dad, and his mom too.”
“Do you know what relationship they have with your father, Isaac?” Reyna turns to Isaac.
“Uh, no, not really. But the Arizmendi’s sometimes come over. Maybe they work with him?”
“No, I don’t think daddy would ever get involved in mafia.” Victoria frowns as she looks at Isaac. “It’s because we’re friends.”
“You wouldn’t know.”
“The Arizmendi’s. What kind of military articulates are manufactured at the company?”
“I just know that it…. I don’t really know all of it, but daddy does make guns. And he also has surveillance technology like trackers and drones- I think.”
“Well,” Reyna pulls out her revolver as she gets up. “You’re both safe with me. Come.”
Victoria and Isaac get up and follow her out of Ghiotto West as security runs past, people still running towards the exits.
“Let’s get out of here.” Reyna suggests. “Keep close. When I say ‘eyes and ears’, you close your eyes and ears, okay?”
“Okay, Reyna.”
“Okay, Missus.”
As they walk to the exits as well, Isaac looks up at Reyna.
“Do nanny’s get trained for these kinds of things?”
She opens her mouth but closes it as she comes up with a formidable lie.
“Well, not normally. Yet, a nanny must always be prepared for the worst. At least, I believe so.”
“My nanny doesn’t know how to pick up a gun, let alone fire one.” Victoria frowns. “Why couldn’t I get a cool nanny too?”
“Some people aren’t as lucky.”
“You’re not lucky, you just got the cool nanny because of what your dad does!” Victoria scowls. “While my nanny scrubs the floors as I play, I’m pretty sure your nanny kills people for your dad!”
“That is not true! Reyna wouldn’t hurt a fly!” Isaac defends before he turns to Reyna. “You wouldn’t kill for my papa, would you?”
“Non, definitely not. I may have claimed to be the one to keep Lucifer safe for your sake, but I wouldn’t kill for him.”
“No, I didn’t mean- obviously. You don’t like him very much, do you?”
“Non.”
“But I meant, would you kill someone if he asked you to?”
“That would….. be best answered at the time of occurrence.”
“See? Reyna wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“She didn’t say it wouldn’t happen.” Victoria shoots back.
“Yeah, but-”
“Quit arguing.” Reyna looks at them. “Seriously. Stop. It won’t do any good.”
“Okay, Reyna.”
“Good.” Reyna takes them by the hand, losing themselves in a crowd again.
The three men on their trail lose them for two minutes, enabling them to run to the parking lot among the crowd of panicking people before they’re caught again.
“Okay, quickly, get in. Lady Victoria, you’ll have to grab on tightly.”
“But you don’t have the keys.” Isaac looks at her as she straps in Victoria.
“Good thing I’m an excellent cut-purse, then.” Reyna gets into the drivers seat and produces the keys from her jacket’s pocket.
“Cool nanny, but she’s a thief.” Victoria huffs as she crosses her arms.
“Do nanny’s get trained to steal?” Isaac asks curiously as Reyna pulls out of the parking lot.
“Yes.” Reyna and the kids jolt forward.
“Do they also get told to run over people?” Victoria’s eyes widen.
“Not in most cases, no, but in our case, I have been granted permission by the government.” Reyna waits for the man of three that she ran over to get up again before slamming into him again with the car.
“Well, I have to say, it’s pretty cool.” Isaac laughs a bit. “You don’t care at all.”
“No, not really.” Reyna steps on the accelerator and swerves to hit the two other men as she speeds out of the Cavallino Matto parking lot.
“You…. you do know you’re going to get arrested,” Victoria says quietly as she looks back. “Right?”
“Possibility, but not entirely unavoidable.”
“Can we get that treat you promised us?” Isaac chimes in.
“I’ll decide if it’s safe, yes?”
“Mhm.”
“Very well.” Reyna takes a turn into Via Volturno. “Lady Victoria, you reside where?”
“Siena.”
“I suppose we could make a stop before we turn to Florence.” Reyna decides. “Keep your heads low.”
She takes another turn and is soon on E80.
“Wait, Reyna, you left dad behind.”
“He has friends, I’m sure he could garner a ride.”
“I suppose, but what if he doesn’t?”
“He’d make it back to the estate in approximately one day and five hours.” Is Reyna’s simple and unconcerned reply.
“Well, I guess I won’t be seeing him any time soon.”
“You don’t seem that worried.” Victoria points out.
“I’m not- I have Reyna.”
The glass shattering makes Victoria scream as she ducks and Isaac ducks too. The both of them try their best to cover themselves from the flying glass shards. Reyna runs the next four red lights in attempts to get rid of the three black SUV’s behind them.
“Alright, this is bad.” Reyna tosses her purse at Victoria.
“Wh-what do I do with this?!” She demands.
“Take out my phone and call-”
Crap, who the hell do I call? Ruben’s probably busy, Lucifer has no transportation, and Julius?
“Wh-who do I call?” Victoria takes our Reyna’s phone with shaking hands. “I-It’s locked!”
“Password is January 11, 2001 in numbers- no slashes.”
“01112001. Okay, it worked. Who do I call?”
“Call- call…… " Reyna trails off as she swerves into the opposite lane.
“Reyna, we’re gonna die!” Isaac shouts.
“No, we’re not, relax.” Reyna looks at Victoria through the rearview mirror. “Call the Ringleader and put him on speaker.”
Victoria nods, searching through Reyna’s contacts as she looks for the Ringleader’s number. She finds it and dials him. Three rings and they’re redirected to voicemail as Reyna swerves repeatedly to dodge the oncoming swarms of bullets.
“s**t!” Reyna turns on the emergency lights, unbuckles her seatbelt and leaps into the back seat as the tire pops.
Victoria’s seatbelt is cut by Reyna and she holds both Victoria and Isaac close as the car continues into oncoming traffic.
“Okay, we’re gonna jump.” Reyna unbuckles Isaac. “Lady Victoria, hold my purse close.”
Victoria nods, shaking a bit from the fear and shock. Isaac nods too, as Reyna turns to him and she opens the door, making it come loose as it slams into an oncoming car.
“Now!” She grabs the two and they jump out.
It takes a moment for the men chasing them to process what’s going on and by the time they do, Reyna and the kids are running into what small forested area there is to traverse to Via Vecchia Aurelia. The driver in the lead car slams his hands into the steering wheel.
“Axel will be anything but pleased that she slipped away- and what’s worse, with Arizmenti’s and Provenza’s brats.” He spits.
“I-” Victoria trips over her own feet. “I can’t- can’t run any-anymore.”
Reyna grabs Victoria before she falls and turns to Isaac, Victoria nestled and hugging Reyna tightly.
“Are you alright, Isaac?”
“Yeah, I’m okay.”
“Alright,” Reyna takes a deep breath. “We have to continue here, okay? Through the forested ares before running into the fields.”
“And? What then?” Victoria asks, having finally recovered her breath. “We’re all far from home.”
Reyna’s quiet for a moment before shaking her head.
“Not really.” She looks to the South. “Not really.”
“What does that mean?” Isaac takes Reyna’s hand as they continue to walk.
“It’s going to be one heck of a bummer to appear at someone’s doorstep,” Reyna steps into the oncoming traffic. “But first, we get a ride.”
