“Dad, hold on a sec. Don't end the conversation.
I have to take care of something urgently," Daxton said, removing the phone from his ear to tend to the man who entered with Clara.
"I apologize, sir, for disturbing your call. You are the reason these men are here. They are from Singapore.
They said your father led them to our company.” Clara clarified, placing her hands behind her.
“Son, that is the s**t I mean.
Avoid dozing off about it. Those men are from Singapore,” Daxton's father said on the interphone.
Daxton was listening in on their conversation without realizing it.
“Oh my! I believe I requested that you remain on the line. I will speak with you later. Goodbye,” Daxton said, cutting the conversation short to concentrate on the visitors.
“I am grateful, Clara,”
Daxton smiled and waved her away, allowing him to engage in lively conversation with the men from Singapore.
Following the introductions and small talk, the investors gave Daxton a business proposal that he could not turn down.
It was the largest contract he had ever had in his entire career as a tech expert.
According to the Singaporean government, the Daxton company was supposed to create a lie detector app.
The Singapore Police Department will also use the lie detector app to help with criminal and terrorist investigations.
"Two hundred million dollars?
I am interested.
What happened to the legal document? I must read it through,” Daxton said.
Despite his extreme excitement, he managed to control his joy.
“Of course, Mr. Daxton.” To feed Daxton's eyes, one of the investors showed him a file.
By the middle of the documents, Daxton's attitude shifted.
He changed from being the happiest person in history to becoming a sadist.
“What is this?” He gestured to a contract page.
“That is precisely how it appeared, Mr. Dawson. Before the deal is signed, you must be legally married,” one of the investors, Jackie Lee, divulged.
“Hold on a second!
Your father mentioned that you are married, right? Or are we overlooking something?” Daxton was questioned.
They suspected he was not married, let alone in a relationship, based on his peculiar demeanour.
Daxton lied once more, saying, “Of course I am married.”
He smiled to persuade the investors.
“The sight of those kinds of terms simply astounded me. To tell the truth, I have never seen anything like that,” Daxton continued.
“I understand.
What happened to your wife?
Her signature is required on the contract.” A demand was made by one of them.
For Daxton, things were becoming more complicated. He did not anticipate that. He assumed the journey would be straightforward.
"Oh, my wife?
She's at home,” Daxton stumbled.
“I apologize; she took a holiday.
She will return in two weeks.” Daxton supported himself.
He was sweating like a person on a hot seat even though he had turned on the air conditioner.
“All right.
When your wife returns in two weeks, we will be back.” One of them said.
Without saying anything more, they all got up and departed, saying, “See you later, Mr. Daxton.”
Daxton was perplexed.
He was at a loss for what to do.
To avoid coming across as a desperate CEO, he never attempted to chase them down.
Daxton's day continued to deteriorate.
He had been frustrated so many times in less than a day.
First, Amanda was to blame for the mayhem. He is now in danger of losing out on the largest contract of his life.
“No. I am not going to overlook this. I am going to fight until my blood runs out. No matter what, I am going to get this contract,” Daxton swore.
He attempted to call his father, but he did not answer.
“I was aware of it.
He knew what had happened, so he would not answer the phone,” Daxton said in a conciliatory manner.
He would rather not lose a significant amount of money—two hundred million dollars.
Despite their relationship, he does not think Amanda is deserving enough to be his wife, especially given the circumstances.
Due to the nature of his work, Daxton was not a strong supporter of relationships.
When his father introduced him to Amanda, everything changed.
Daxton still finds Amanda uninteresting, even after the arrangement.
I have to leave for home at this point. Despite my best efforts, my father will not answer the phone," Daxton concluded.
Without telling anyone, he left the company and drove directly to the house.
Daxton had yet another disappointment when he arrived home and saw Amanda sitting with her legs crossed in the living room.
“What on earth are you doing?
After the foolishness you committed at my office, you still dared to come here?” Amanda was reprimanded by Daxton.
She sipped her glass of juice and focused on the telephone program, unconcerned by his tirade.
“Oh, you nasty bitch.”
To get Amanda's attention, Daxton grabbed the remote control angrily.
She laughed and got to her feet.
“I believe I informed you that I would be visiting your father.”
“Here I am, then.”
Amanda spoke with such assurance as if she had a solid support system.
“Well, since I am done with you, this marks the end of your chapter in my life. Now get out of my house and do not come back,” Daxton ordered.
“She doesn’t go anywhere.”
Out in the distance, a voice spoke.
Daxton noticed his father coming up the stairs when he looked over his shoulder.
“What are you doing?
Getting rid of her?
I invited her over, in case you were interested. Thus, she remains,” declared Dawson Whyte with authority.
“I have no interest in that.
I would like to speak with you privately.
It has to do with my meeting with the investors from Singapore,” Daxton revealed.
He hoped that sending Amanda over to the house would be sufficient.
“Amanda is not required to go.
She is already aware of the terms of the agreement.” Daxton was left gasping for air when Dawson dropped the bombshell.
“Does she already know?
How is that even possible?” Daxton asked his father, who appeared disoriented.
He could now see why Amanda abruptly refused to leave when he attempted to eject her.
