Chapter 6
It took longer than just a week for Roy to make more friends. Joe found he’d gotten into the habit of sitting next to Roy at meals. He liked the educated conversation the other gave him. Joe might not have been to school much, but he did like to read. Roy used high-falutin’ words and talked like a schoolmaster, and Joe enjoyed listening. He also found that he just liked being around Roy. It didn’t hurt that Roy was a handsome fellow, with that blond hair and those big blue eyes. He had a good physique, too, that must have come from all that riding and fighting he’d done back East in his fancy boarding school. Joe liked hearing about the fencing and shooting classes, and about the shenanigans Roy and his friends had gotten up to after classes were over.
