Chapter 1

“Ah! It’s cold… huh… what the—!” waking up from her trance, the young lady who was standing with her friends dazed off for a few seconds before looking left and right with a confused expression. “Eh?” “Wh-what is this…” around her were few teenage girls in fancy clothes resembling those middle age party dresses which she often sees in comics and fairy tales, and their gazes are on her—a young lady wearing the same fancy dress with a lot of frills and useless decorations that's now soaking wet with the cold tea that was splashed on her head by the handsome young man standing before her. She gawked at him while her brain is still trying to process everything that is happening to her. However, he didn’t even wait for her reaction and glared at her before turning his back, leaving her there to deal with the embarrassment that befell her. “Th-that…” “Oh my god!” the shrill voice of one of the ladies interrupted her and gasped. “Y-you shouldn’t have said that about Lady Iris.” “To think that you said those words explicitly…” “You should’ve watched your mouth.” “It’s unbecoming of a lady.” Just like that, the ‘friends’ that were surrounding her suddenly criticized her as if they weren’t laughing at her comments about Iris’ biological mother being a commoner and the possibility that she’s not blood related to the Viscount. Worse, they left her alone without even offering their help. For a fourteen-year-old girl who hasn’t even joined the high-society, such an experience would surely be a shock even if there were only four persons who witnessed the whole thing, especially since this was just her second time attending a party with her parents and the person who embarrassed her by spilling tea on her was her unrequited love, Lucas Bernhardine. Thankfully, the soul inside her is an entirely different entity… but after taking in everything that had happened, she suddenly burst out laughing. Luckily, she’s alone and was at the corner near the balcony because if not, people might think that she’s gone crazy. With a grim face, she said, “What shitty timing this was…” Even though she doesn’t want to believe the absurdity of her reality, when the evening breeze blew upon her drenched self, the coldness that permeated through her spine proved that she’s not dreaming indeed. She closed her eyes for a moment as her head was still hurting from the memories that flooded her brain a while ago. It seems that she transmigrated to the body of Morgan, the youngest daughter of Marquess Lawrence. Originally, she was a nameless mob character who appeared at the opening scene of the dating simulation game that she started played on a whim, ‘Lovely Empire’. The scene that had happened was about how the young heir of Duke Bernhardine, the main capture target and the first available route, had “defended” the heroine, Lady Iris, when some noble ladies bad-mouthed her former commoner status. He did it even before they formally met in person. “Well… I think I already served my purpose so I guess I won’t be meeting with the main characters anymore.” with a bright expression, she squeezed out the tea from her long, wavy, light ash, blonde hair as if the embarrassing event didn’t even happen. But just as she was thinking about lying low… “L-lady Morgan? Are you okay?” a petite girl wearing a simple white dress with blue accents approached her. When Morgan turned her head to look at the said person, she froze for a second. Long, straight and silky light pink hair and bright blue eyes... without even relying on the original Morgan's memories, she could tell who she is since the appearance of this person perfectly matches with the game's heroine, Iris Sylvia. “Ah… right. How could I dare forget?” With a sigh, Morgan gave an awkward smile. “Right… the first time they meet, Lady Iris has a poor impression of Lucas because she witnessed him being harsh to a lady from afar… so this was that… haha…” Additionally, in the story, the nameless noble girl got angry at Iris, thinking that the heroine was mocking her and pushed her off to the table located at the side where a tower of wine glasses are placed, making a scene… “And then the other capture targets who were scattered somewhere in the vicinity will take notice of the heroine… Anyway, why would they even place that damned thing near the balcony?” “Thinking about it, it was cheesy as hell…” Morgan muttered before flashing a smile to the heroine. “Yes. Don’t worry about it.” “I’m sorry for not following my role, but since this it became like this, I’ll just quietly finish this event and remain a background character, living peacefully for the rest of my life… I’m not even the villainess.” “Uhm… here. Use this.” Iris offered up her own embroidered handkerchief while looking genuinely worried. “This isn’t much but it should help dry your hair.” Morgan suspiciously glanced at the piece of cloth and Iris’ face. After reading too many reincarnation novels, she couldn’t help but to be wary of the heroine. After all, most of them turned out to be the true evil. However, no matter how she scrutinized her, Iris’ small, innocent face is just too cute to look at… and she’s weak to cute things. There's no hint of evilness from her at all. "Anyway, it's not like we'll be crossing paths again. I guess this one time is fine." “Thank you.” Quickly burying her suspicions into the oblivion, Morgan received the handkerchief from her. “And… Sorry.” “Hm? What do you mean?” Iris blinked and tilted her head, obviously unaware. “You probably saw what happened a while ago, right?” “Yes… and I think, that was too harsh…” “Do you know why he did that?” “It doesn’t matter! Doing it to a lady… embarrassing you in front of your friends, is unforgivable!” as she recalled what she saw, her lips pouted and she creased her eyebrows. Iris’ sense of justice and beautiful appearance truly screams ‘heroine’ in every aspect. “I’m actually talking s**t about you.” With her blunt, unrefined words, Iris gawked at her for a few seconds, and Morgan realized her mistake. “Ah! I mean, I was talking behind your back, saying bullsh—uh, demeaning remarks about your origin…” “It’s alright… no matter what, I don’t feel ashamed about my mother. She… is a good woman.” Recalling her now deceased mother, Iris’ eyes displayed a hint of sadness."and I really have a commoner blood in me." “I’m sorry about it.” Morgan apologized again, but this time, she bowed her head down. “I was short-sighted… running my mouth… judging people… I truly regret it… please forgive me Lady Iris.” "I guess this is fine, right? This way, she won't hold a grudge on me." With this thought, Morgan secretly exhaled in relief. “Oh, no! You don’t have to bow, my Lady!” After all, Morgan’s family is higher in rank compared to Viscount Sylvia, and she was always treated coldly by others so Iris was flustered when a higher ranked noble humbled herself. Iris wanted to hold Morgan’s shoulders to straighten her up but suddenly, as if the story's auto-correction system is mocking Morgan's actions, Iris' heels broke and she fell sideways towards the table with a wine glass tower...
