Elvanya's Pov
I spent the whole day in Kael's chambers and I was not allowed to leave because it was too dangerous and everyone said the rebels might try again.
Lira stayed with me most of the time and brought me books to read and tried to distract me with stories about when she and Kael were young but I could not focus on anything.
Every time I closed my eyes I saw those three rebels falling backward with smoke rising from their chests and their faces frozen in shock and pain.
I killed them and no matter what Kael said or how many times he told me it was self defense I could not stop thinking about it.
The sun was starting to set when someone knocked on the door and I looked up from the book I was pretending to read.
"Come in" I called out.
