Gerard’s office was not far away, but traffic was dense, and Blair had to wait for buses to pull out and pedestrians to cross more often than he wanted to. When they finally reached their destination, he was perspiring under his jacket. To make matters worse he could not find parking anywhere close to Gerard’s office. “What is wrong with this man, why did he not move uptown like most in his profession years ago?” Finally, after passing the building for the third time Blair noticed a shabby man with a beard waving at him indicating a vacant parking bay behind him.  Blair realized that it must be a cop and quickly moved into the bay. It still left them about twenty paces towards the front door of the building and again he asked Jacqui to stay seated until he had reached the passenger side
