Orientation

******* Arianna followed Ryder and Kane to the auditorium, where the rest of the students were gathering for orientation. As they walked in, Arianna was struck by the sheer number of students. There were hundreds of them, all chatting and laughing with each other. Ryder led her to a seat near the front, and Kane sat down beside them. "So, Ryan, what's your story?" Kane asked, turning to her with a curious expression. Arianna hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "I'm just here to learn," she said finally, trying to sound casual. Kane raised an eyebrow. "That's it? No family connections or pack affiliations?" Arianna shook her head, trying to seem nonchalant. "Nope. Just a solo student looking to make a fresh start." Ryder shot her a curious glance, but Kane just nodded. "Cool. Well, you've come to the right place. The Alpha Training Academy is the best in the business." As they chatted, the lights dimmed and the dean of the academy took the stage. "Welcome, students, to the Alpha Training Academy!" he boomed, his voice echoing off the walls. Arianna listened intently as the dean outlined the academy's curriculum and expectations. She was determined to succeed here, no matter what it took. As the orientation came to a close, Ryder stood up, stretching. "Well, that was fun. Now let's get something to eat." Arianna followed him out of the auditorium, feeling a sense of excitement and nerves. She was really doing this. She was attending the Alpha Training Academy, and she was going to make the most of it. But as they walked out of the auditorium, Arianna couldn't shake the feeling that she was in over her head. She was pretending to be a boy, and she was surrounded by powerful werewolves who would stop at nothing to achieve their goals. What had she gotten herself into? ******* As they walked out of the auditorium, Ryder turned to her. "So, Ryan, what did you think of the orientation?" Arianna shrugged. "It was okay, I guess. A lot to take in." Kane nodded. "Yeah, it's a lot to process. But don't worry, you'll get the hang of it." Ryder clapped her on the back. "Come on, let's get some lunch. I'm starving." Arianna followed them to the cafeteria, feeling a little overwhelmed. The cafeteria was huge, with long tables and benches stretching out as far as the eye could see. Ryder led her to the food line, where they loaded up their trays with sandwiches, salads, and fruit. Arianna's stomach growled as she caught the scent of freshly baked bread. As they sat down at a table, Kane started quizzing her about her background. "So, Ryan, where are you from?" Arianna hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "I'm from... um... a small town in the mountains." Kane raised an eyebrow. "The mountains? Which ones?" Arianna's heart skipped a beat. She hadn't expected Kane to press her for details. "Uh... the... uh... Rocky Mountains." Ryder chuckled. "Dude, Kane, lay off. Ryan's not used to our interrogation techniques." Kane grinned. "Hey, someone's got to keep you on your toes." Arianna smiled, feeling a sense of relief. Maybe these guys wouldn't be so bad after all. As they ate and chatted, Arianna started to feel more at ease. Maybe she could actually make it through this academy thing without too much trouble. But just as she was starting to relax, Arianna caught a glimpse of a boy watching her from across the cafeteria. He was tall and lean, with piercing red eyes that seemed to bore into her soul. Arianna's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met. Who was this guy, and why was he staring at her like that? ******** Arianna's eyes locked onto his, and for a moment, she felt like she was frozen in time. She had seen him before, she was certain of it. And then it hit her - the memory of her parents discussing her arranged marriage, and the boy who was supposed to be her future husband. Kael. Arianna's heart sank as she realized the truth. Kael was here, at the Alpha Training Academy. And he was staring at her like he knew exactly who she was. But that was impossible. Arianna had disguised herself as a boy, and she was certain that no one had recognized her. So why was Kael staring at her like that? Arianna felt a shiver run down her spine as Kael's eyes seemed to bore into her soul. She knew that she had to be careful, that she couldn't let Kael discover her true identity. But as she turned back to Ryder and Kane, Arianna couldn't shake the feeling that Kael was going to be a problem. ****** Ryder nudged her. "Hey, Ryan, you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost." Arianna shook her head, trying to clear the cobwebs. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little... distracted." Kane raised an eyebrow. "Distracted? By what?" Arianna hesitated, unsure of how to respond. She couldn't tell them about Kael, not without revealing her true identity. But before she could come up with an excuse, Ryder stood up. "Hey, let's get out of here. We've got a lot to do before classes start tomorrow." Arianna nodded, relieved. "Yeah, sounds good to me." As they walked out of the cafeteria, Arianna couldn't help but sneak a glance back at Kael. He was still watching her, his eyes narrowed slightly as if he was trying to figure out a puzzle. Arianna's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met. She knew that she had to be careful, that she couldn't let Kael discover her true identity. ***** As they walked across campus, Ryder and Kane chatted about their summer breaks and their plans for the upcoming semester. Arianna listened intently, trying to blend in and seem like she belonged. But her mind kept wandering back to Kael. Who was he, really? And why did he seem so interested in her? As they approached their dorm building, Ryder turned to her. "Hey, Ryan, want to come with us to the library? We've got some research to do for our summer assignment." Arianna hesitated, unsure of what to do. Part of her wanted to go with Ryder and Kane, to try and seem like a normal student. But another part of her was screaming to get away, to hide and protect herself from Kael's prying eyes. "Uh, I don't know," she said finally. "I've got some stuff to take care of." Ryder raised an eyebrow. "Stuff to take care of? What kind of stuff?" Arianna shrugged, trying to seem nonchalant. "Just some personal stuff. Don't worry about it." Kane nodded. "Alright, no worries. We'll catch you later, Ryan." As Ryder and Kane walked off towards the library, Arianna felt a sense of relief wash over her. She had managed to extricate herself from the situation without arousing too much suspicion. But as she turned to head back to her dorm room, she caught a glimpse of Kael watching her from across the quad. Her heart skipped a beat as their eyes met, but she turned away immediately and all but ran back to their room. She spent the rest of the evening unpacking and organizing her belongings, trying to make the small room feel like home. As she worked, she couldn't shake the feeling that Kael was watching her, even though she knew he was nowhere near. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Arianna finished unpacking and collapsed onto her bed, feeling exhausted. She set her alarm for the next morning, knowing that classes would be starting bright and early. As she drifted off to sleep, Arianna couldn't help but wonder what the next day would bring. Would she be able to keep her disguise intact? Would Kael confront her about her true identity? And what about Ryder - would he still be friendly and welcoming once he got to know her better? Arianna's mind whirled with questions and doubts, but eventually, exhaustion won out, and she fell into a deep and dreamless sleep.
