Chapter 8 Richard’s point of view I got into my car rewinding in my mind my plans for today. Ray told me my mansion is now done and has every of the touch it needed and I can now pack in. What else I needed now is for me embrace my social status and start living the life I’m meant to live. The life I created for myself actually. I drove speedily through the beautiful lane of Los Angeles filled with different running cars moving past me and me moving past some; my mind wandering back to Vivian, I wonder if she knew something has be done for her or that her bills has been settled anonymously. I lied to her about my name and she didn’t caught it; meaning she doesn’t know who I am. I don’t expect her to though, she doesn’t look like someone who engage herself in the world around her or the one she lives in too much. She’s self-secluded and definitely world-closed. I came out as the original CEO and founder of Rich Refineries not too long, I’d definitely be trending on ‘Latest Los Angeles’ right now; a tv show about Los Angeles and gists on it, I’m probably the most popular person earth right now, but that is something I act as if it’s not happening currently, soon I will have to confront that. My company building came into view and soon I drove through parking into the designated one of the parking spot before stepping down. As if my arrival was been timed, different reporters literally from nowhere surrounded me with different microphones pointed at me. It’s rather starting from now or never. “What would you like to know about me?” I proposed, directing the question to all of them. “First is there to any particular reason to why you stayed anonymous about being the founder of RR?” Someone I couldn’t see her face asked, her voice sounding like a female’s voice. “It’s personal,” I gave a simple response awaiting the next question. “Does this reason have to do with your father?” Another person asked, a male this time around. “No it doesn’t,” I lied smoothly with a straight blank face. “Is your father cool with his son being his rival in taking the first rank of LA’s richest companies?” Another threw at me. “How should I know? I’m a CEO not a mind reader.” I gave a mean rather humble response, that would stir another thing up. My father is my rival but I certainly would not made that known to this jobless people. “Can you tell us why you chose now to reveal your identity as the real CEO and founder of RR?” Someone amidst them asked, and they all morphed an expression that supported the question with all of them looking at me expectantly. “It’s personal and I think we’re done for this morning,” My left hand is were my glass is, I pushed it up putting the glass on my face before marching elegantly into the building. They rushed behind me like an harrower, getting to the smooth entrance before guards showed up blocking their entrance. They tried pushing their way in but more guards showed up to help till they all left when tired of forcing their way in. The shade on my face is tinted and only I can see people’s eyes, they can’t see mine. I stopped on my steps taking a look around the whole floor down here and realizing all their eyes were on me and immediately went back to work the moment I caught them. Everywhere was silent like the graveyard for no reason. Is this because of my presence or were they just being dramatic. “Well,” I spoke up, choosing to address the strange quietness that claimed the atmosphere. “If you wanna work here and stay on my good side, don’t ever let me see you getting distracted by little little things like me coming in here. I would have fired you all but I guess my heart is white this morning. This will be my last and very first warning to you all.” And with that said I walked towards the elevator. A guard standing beside the elevator bowed before turning to open it, fast and secured footsteps were heard and the next was the rushed breathing of a female who halted beside me with her trying to catch her breaths. I ignored her presence entering the elevator, she made to entered but I raised a finger placing a pause on her move. “Your first punishment for being late is taking the stairs and not the elevator with me. Use up to ten minutes and kiss your Job goodbye.” I addressed her in a thick cold voice that held no emotion or feelings whatever towards her state, purposely ignoring how worn out she looks right now. I turned to the two guards, “If she takes the elevator, consider your job gone.” I said to them before clicking the red button that closes the elevator door. I made my way to my office waiting for my secretary to arrive and read out my schedules for today before I get down to other business I need to tend to. Minutes later my door flung open spewing out a stressed looking lady with her face covered in sweats, she sniffed rubbing her nose before staggering her way inside and wiping the beards of sweats off her forehead. I looked at my wrist to check the timer I made for her. “You were three seconds late, and the punishment for that is standing and never going out to take a sit for four hours straight. Starting now.” I told her in a plain voice, refusing to acknowledge the pleading look covering her face. She tried speaking up when my words beat her to it. “Say any defensive or pleading word and I promise to add an extra hour over and over for as long you stopped talking.” She shut her mouth immediately looking at me underneath her eyelashes. She couldn’t say anything and just rather curse me in her mind. “Now what are my today schedules?” I asked, adjusting myself well on the seat. “You-“ “Five more hours to stand, only talk when I say you should.” I cut her off, earning a silent yet heard gasp from her. “Now talk.” I commanded. “Your meeting with the board members is in two hours, a journalist named Ken said he has an appointment with you and that’s schedule to hold on 12 dot on the noon. And here’s the list of companies that booked an appointment with you so they can talk about your investment in their growing business, so you should approve the ones you can deal with or reject them all. Lastly, this is the list of their contract deals, I would love for you to make yours so I can compare it with them.” She spoke out as if she’s reading a newspaper but I manage to follow her all through. “I have a board meeting in two hours?” I asked too be sure I heard her correctly, who called the board meeting because I didn’t. “Yes sir,” She replied, her face urging me to spill my question about that. “Who called the meeting?” I asked in a pissed tone, things shouldn’t be done in my back or without my knowledge. “They all kinda did, I don’t exactly know but they wanted to address your revelation as the original founder of RR.” She said, her voice going low while staring at my face. I can’t control my expression and right now it’s written all over my face of how angered I am. “Two hours right?” I asked with an unlikely calm tone. She nodded frighteningly. A grin grin sound came up disrupting our moment, I stared out to the direction of where it’s coming from. Then it was the landline placed on the desk outside my office. My secretary spot to be exacted. She stared me asking for permission through her eyes. “Yeah go take it,” I said dismissively with a wave of hand. She scurried out, I watched her through the modified transparent glass to see her picking the call. I look down at the stack of files laid on my table. ‘Am I really gonna look through all this?’ I thought asking myself, why do I have to review this deals before I can approve an appointment that might or may not finalize our agreement. I took one of the files opening it and diving into work, I don’t have the whole day and I have somewhere to be at exactly 5 in the evening. My office door slide opened again, I lifted my head up acknowledging the presence only to be faced with a sober looking secretary I haven’t quite mastered her name yet. It seems something is wrong with her, something I should or shouldn’t be concerned about. “Should I be concern or not?” I asked, choosing not to gloze over the glooming look on his face. “Sir I might have some bad news,” she let out in a very low voice, approaching me in a low step before coming to a stop in front of me. “Go on,” I uttered with a pinch of curiosity visible in my voice, giving her my full attention to hear what she has to say. “Sir a call just came in right now, and it’s said that an incident happened. The golds we were shipping over from our company in Chicago is said to be stolen with everyone found dead. Those with the trucks I mean.” She gave out the bad news. Letting her words sunk into my brain, and deciding to create a deep wave of shock. I became speechless unable to say a word and rather try to process what she just said. Ray told me about this shipment yesterday, and he also told me about the pawn companies we’re to settle after refining all the golds. What could this be? A bad luck perhaps for helping out the girl I liked. ‘No I shouldn’t think like that’ I attacked myself for thinking like that. “Sir!” The secretary voice called, bringing my face up to meet hers, I stared at her questioningly to why she called me. “This has never happen to us because no body knows when we ship our goods to and fro. Perhaps is there anyone you shared this information with?” She asked. “Tell me how did this happen? How did you get the news?” I said, asking another question instead of answering hers. There’s nobody living with me. And the only friend I have is Ray who like across the country. “We always had a trailing source Incase those in charge of the shipping chooses betrayal. They found all the trucks loaded with golds parked, and moving closer they discover all the drivers dead with their partners; all shot on the head. And checking out the package, they found everything gone. It was planned, someone did this to us.” She explained, fiddling with fingers as she tapped her leg repeatedly on the floor; I know she’s tired but she came late and must finish her punishment. “And this has never happened before?” I asked to be sure of what I’m hearing. “Yes,” she nodded affirmatively giving support to her response. “Okay, see yourself out of my office.” I said to her, returning to what I was doing before she came in to inform me on this. I will deal with this, I will find out who stole my golds and make them pay dearly for doing it, I don’t care who it can be but they must surely get a brutal reward for doing it. “One more thing,” I still could hear her voice, “I notice your email; the company email has been breached or hacked. I think they got the information about the shipment through this.” My head snapped up at the heard of that. Jessica came to my house uninvited yesterday and I left home without my laptop that has everything in it. So Jessica might did this to me, she did this to me. ‘Gosh I can’t believe I try to blame Vivian for this’ “I know who did it, for making it easier for me to figure this out, your punishment is postponed till tomorrow. You can continue standing tomorrow, you have four hours left to stand and it shall be done tomorrow.” I said to her standing on my feet, my hand grabbed my jacket heading out of the office with her following closely behind. “Thank you sir, but I must ask where you’re headed, the board meeting is about to start.” She reminded and that got me halting. I have literally forgotten about that. “Oh yeah. Oh yeah, get the conference room ready and available for it now. Meet me back in my office to collect the files I’m suppose to look through and do the job, I’d have to make a list of the deal I want before you approve and disapprove. Is that clear?” She nodded showing she’s been following. “Good.” I said walking out on her, with her heading to a different direction. To be continued……..
