Denise's breathing was shallow, and her sleep was disturbed by an unsettling dream. She followed her mother, the inscrutable blur hiding the features of her mother’s face as she chased after her in the realm of her subconscious.
Her mother kept telling her to flee, alerting her to the dangers she might face because of the men she loved, and this gave the dream a heavy sense of dismay.
