6. A SAVIOR

DENISE The forest engulfed me in an eerie silence as I ran, my footsteps muffled by the thick layer of fallen leaves under my feet. The small bag clutched in my hand contained the sum of my existence now: a few clothes, some meager necessities, and a heart heavy with rejection and abandonment. I was alone and abandoned by the pack that was supposed to be my family. Every step I took felt like a reminder of my banishment, a sharp pang of betrayal that cut me deeper than anything else could have. Tears clouded my vision, turning the path ahead of me into a hazy blur of green and brown. Abandoned, rejected, and lost—those were the emotions that twisted my gut. I ran, not knowing where I was heading, just desperate to escape the pain that clung to me like a suffocating veil. My breaths came in ragged gasps, and my legs ached, but I couldn't stop. I had to get away, as far away as possible from the pack that had once been my home. In the midst of my despair and frustration, my thoughts turned to Brandon Frost, my mate. The man I had only seen once, but whose name was imprinted in my memory, and Arya's The mere thought of his name brought a bittersweet ache to my chest. I had no idea where he was, what pack he belonged to, or even if he was even interested in finding me again. I should believe that he was equally thinking about me and desperate to see me again, but after everything I had been through in the past few days, I couldn’t bring myself to hope for too much. Despite my attempt not to hope for too much, I was still clinging to the hope that I would see him again and that he would somehow find me, even though I didn’t give him any clues on where to start. Prayers to the moon goddess spilled from my lips in whispers, carrying my desperation and longing to the heavens. Perhaps, in some crazy twist of fate, she would hear my plea and guide me to safety, to a place where I could find myself and be accepted. After what felt like an eternity of running, I finally paused to catch my breath, my lungs burning with exertion. The forest around me was silent, the air thick with the scent of earth and pine. I sank to the ground, exhaustion washing over me like a tidal wave. With trembling hands, I reached into my bag and pulled out a bottle of water, my parched throat grateful for the relief. As I drank, I glanced around, trying to get my bearings. The dense foliage stretched out in all directions, and the trees stood like silent guardians. I had no idea where I was or which direction to go. The forest was vast, and because I was so unfamiliar with the place, I had no idea where to go or what to do next. I was starting to feel my fears creeping back up when I realized that it was already quite dark and I still had no clue where I was or where to go. Regardless of how scared I was, I considered the possibility of finding a safe place to rest, even if just for a moment, before continuing my aimless journey. I was about to collapse from exhaustion when a voice broke the silence, calling out a name I wasn’t familiar with. "Fiona!" I turned sharply, my eyes wide with surprise and confusion. The voice was somewhat familiar, but I couldn't place it immediately. My heart raced in my chest as I scanned the trees, searching for the source of the sound. Whoever it was that called out that name had a strong and familiar scent, and in a split second, both the name and the scent started to make sense. Since it was already quite dark, I struggled to make out anything else besides the tall trees until a figure appeared from behind me, and then I saw him. Emerging from the shadows of the forest was Brandon Frost, my mate, his eyes wide with concern and relief. For a moment, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was as if he had shown up out of thin air, and I couldn’t believe he was really standing in front of me. "Brandon?" I whispered, my voice barely audible as tears welled up in my eyes. **** BRANDON The night air was cool as I stood on the outskirts of my pack's territory with Torres at my side. He was briefing me on how to approach the Blue Moon Pack without alerting them to my presence. If I wanted to, I could simply barge into the pack and look everywhere for her, but because I didn’t want to draw any attention to myself or to her being my mate, I had to resort to other means. In the last few days, my thoughts have been consumed by only her, the memory of her hazel eyes and fiery hair fueling my desire. Torres spoke in hushed tones, giving me tips on how to infiltrate the Blue Moon Pack territory undetected. It was a reckless attempt, but one I was willing to try. "Remember, Prince Brandon, stay low and avoid open paths. The forest is your best chance of getting in unnoticed. They’re a small pack, so you can get in undetected," he said. I nodded, my gaze fixed on the dense forest. My wolf, restless inside me, yearned to find its mate. I needed to find her first to make sure she never met any of my brothers. She was my priority. Suddenly, while Torres and I were still conversing, a familiar scent hit me like a tidal wave, taking me by surprise. At first, I thought it was because of my wolf's longing for my mate, an echo of her intoxicating fragrance imprinted in our memory. But as I inhaled deeper, the scent grew stronger and more vivid. My heart pounded with wild urgency as instinct took over. I turned to Torres, my voice laced with disbelief. "She's here, Torres." Torres looked puzzled, his brows furrowed in confusion. "Who Sir? Your mate?" I didn't have time to explain. The pull I felt was too powerful, too uncontrollable. Without another word, I sprinted deeper into the forest, my senses heightened as I followed the trail of her scent. Every stride brought me closer, and I couldn't ignore the fact that this was no mere memory; my mate was close, and she was real. How did she even get here? How did she find my pack? I dashed through the woods, my heart pounding in my chest as I got closer to her. The scent grew stronger with each passing moment, and I knew I was closing in. And then, there she was. In a small clearing, bathed in moonlight, stood the woman who had consumed my every thought. My mate. "Fiona!" I called out, using the false name she had given me since I didn’t know what else to call her. She turned, her eyes wide with shock, and her lips parted in surprise. "Brandon?" Without a second thought, I moved to close the gap between us. I gathered her in my arms, holding her tightly against me as if I were afraid she might disappear. I breathed her in, savoring her scent, which was even more intoxicating up close. The world fell away, and it was just the two of us, as it should be. As it must always be. She gave me a hug in return, wrapping her arms around me with a fierce urgency that matched mine. "You left without saying anything," I said, pulling away from her. "I had my reasons," she simply responded, and without having to ask, I could sense that something was wrong with her. "How did you get here? Did you come looking for me?" I asked. "I don’t even know where I am right now if I’m being honest. I just kept running, and I found myself here," she vaguely explained, her fatigue evident. I brushed a lock of her auburn hair away from her face and cupped her cheek, my thumb caressing her soft skin. "You come with me then," I told her, and she accepted without protest. Unable to resist any longer, I leaned down, capturing her lips with my own in a desperate kiss. Our mouths moved together with an undeniable hunger—a passionate hunger that made everything else insignificant. She moaned loudly, her fingers finding their way to my hair and combing through it. As we pulled away, our breaths ragged and our eyes locked in a gaze. "How about we take this somewhere more convenient?" I suggested. "Would that be your pack?" she asked. "By the way, what pack is this?" she added. "You’re in Silvermoon Pack territory, sweetheart," I answered. "And why do I get the feeling that you’re not just anyone? Who are you, Brandon Frost?" She asked, curiosity evident in her eyes, and I chuckled dryly. "You’ll find out soon enough."
