Chapter Twenty-Three Johnnie was right to worry about not getting much sleep. A thousand questions ran through his mind that night, making it impossible for him to get any rest. He had already answered perhaps the most fundamental one: Whether he wanted to meet his mother or not. He did. Johnnie had been dreaming about this very moment for years; he would love to meet his mother. The second most important question was ‘how he should treat her’. As hours went by, he was getting more and more confused, wondering if he should confront her or be nice to her. “What kind of mother gives up her child?
