Numb

Anna The next day I woke up to an empty house. No sounds of my mother or the T.V. that would normally be on when she wakes up first. I start to wonder why it is so quiet then the memories of last night came flooding back along with a fresh set of tears. My mom and so-called friends were all arrested for treason and I’m the reason they were caught. I sigh and roll over to turn the TV on in my room. I must be cursed as the first thing I see is my mother’s name and picture on the news. “Great” I thought then a live reporter comes on showing my house. I was shocked to see how many reporters were outside. Then the doorbell rang. I turned the TV off and went to see who was at the door. I peeked through the window and saw reporters. They were all crowded around the door yelling for me to open the door to answer questions. ‘I guess I won’t be leaving or answering the door today’ I thought to myself and took myself back to bed to cry myself asleep again. After a few hours I woke up to my phone ringing. “Hello” I answer sleepily. “Anna? It’s Diana. My father and I would like to stop by and talk with you.” Diana’s voice came through the phone. “Sure, come by whenever. Just watch out for reporters.” I said getting out of bed. “Yay we will be there in 30.” Diana said then the line went dead I put down my phone and slowly got ready. As I’m walking out of my room there was a knock on the front door. When I open the door I see Diana, the President, and secret service. There wasn’t a reporter in sight thankfully. Diana immediately hugged me. “How are you doing?” she asked, letting me go. “Still processing. Come on in.” I say moving aside to let them in. We barely sit down in the living room when I noticed that Diana is excited about something as she is struggling to sit still. “Anna.” The president says “We would like to publicly announce and hold a ceremony for you. You saved my daughter and from your own family, nonetheless.” “I’m sorry, Mr. President. I must decline that offer. I don’t like the spotlight. Plus, it is always harder on the family of traitors. I know I will be treated differently if people know I am her daughter. I’ve been thinking about moving and starting a new life with a new identity.” I state not making eye contact. “But..” Diana started but was interrupted by the President. “I understand, this is all very hard on you. Do you have any other family?” He asked “No” I said quietly “At least none that I know of.” “What about your father?” Diana asked “I know nothing about him. My mom would always get upset when I asked about him.” I replied. “Then, I will help you with moving. Anything you need.” The president said “I can’t accept that is too generous.” I said quickly “No, it’s not. You saved my daughter. Let me help you move on from this.” He said gently “I will need to sell this house, get boxes to pack and pick a place to go.” I stated. “I will send Kay. He is one of my best assistants. He will help with everything.” The President stated standing up. Diana hugged me and said goodbye. Thirty minutes later Kay stopped by with more than enough packing boxes. He had told me he would be back tomorrow to get the place I want to move to and give me details about selling the house. I started immediately going through and packing up the things I wanted to take with me. By nightfall I had the kitchen, living room, bathroom, and my room packed. My mother’s room was the only one left. Suddenly, there is a knock on the front door. I look out a window to see that the press is back. I go through the house making sure the lights are off and curtains drawn. While in the kitchen I noticed movement out the back sliding glass door. As I moved closer a giant wolf appeared looking back at me. I stood there shocked. I have always loved wolves but never thought I would see one. Moving closer to the door I said “Hey there. What is a wolf like you doing here?” This seems like a dream as I should be terrified of the big wolf staring back at me. The wolf tilted its head a little and sits down watching me. I sigh “You can stick around if you want. I have to go finish packing my mom’s room. I have to be hallucinating or out of my mind since I’m talking to an oversized wolf that has suddenly appeared at my back door.” The wolf gives out a whine. I sit down by the door facing the wolf. “I see I caught the attention of a wolf. At least I won’t be alone.” I say as tears start to roll down my cheeks. “You know wolfe, I don’t feel safe and something just feels off.” The wolf growls quietly and lays down touching the door. “Thanks, wolfe” I state standing up. “I will come back when I’m done with my mom’s room.” An hour later I’m almost done. I only packed the items I wanted to keep. The last things to go through are under her bed. I end up pulling out two totes from under her bed. I open the first one and gasp in horror. The tote is filled with knives and guns along with a journal. I pick up the journal and skim through some of the pages. It was all about the cult she is a part of. Something about wanting the superior race to rule. I quickly put the journal back in the tote and closed it. I just couldn’t stand to discover any more about my mother. ‘I’ll give it to the FBI’ I thought to myself. Then I turned to the last tote wondering if I should even look in it. I sigh and open it. Inside the box was completely different than the previous one. I realize that everything looks like keepsakes. I pick up what looks like a baby book. I open it to see a picture of my mother holding a baby and a man standing beside her smiling. A name was listed under the picture with my birthdate. I glanced back at the tote and realized these things were from my baby years. I can finally find out about my father. My mother had always avoided the subject. I started to flip thru the book taking in all the pictures. My mom looked so happy. I wondered what happened. After looking through the book I started to search thru the rest of the items. I came across a box that looked like a little chest made of wood. It had Rosa Black written on it. I opened the lid to find an old looking cell phone and a letter. I opened the letter and read: ‘Dear Daughter, If you are reading this then your mother has taken you away. Know that I will not stop searching or trying to find you. Your mother became very upset when we discovered that your mate is the werewolf prince. Normally, werewolves don’t find their mates till they shift. However, the royal bloodline can find their mates starting at five. No one understands why, but that is how the Goddess made it. I hope when you read this you will come home. Turn on the cell phone and I will be able to find you. Love Your father, Alpha of the Atlas Pack’
