“I wish I never pushed you away,” Blake. 13 years old Blake "Stay away from my daughter" Mr. Matthews seething with anger, stood by the doorway of the hospital room. Blake was by Danny's bedside next to his father, Mr. Connor. Both Blake and Mr. Conner turn to face Mr. Matthews. "I don't need your kind near my daughter." He continued in his tirade as he clenched his fist. Mr. Conner stood next to his son, "Kind?" he said, trying to act coy. "Don't play dumb with me, ALPHA." Mr. Matthew was disguised when he uttered the words ALPHA. "I know what you are. Ha! I've always known. " "Then why didn't you say anything?" Mr. Conner protectively stood in front of Blake. He wasn’t worried about Danny’s father as they always had a good relationship. As the kids grew up together, they would have Mr. Mathews and Danny over for Barbeque. Mr. Connor's mind links his son not to worry. “He’s just in pain and looking for someone to blame.” "Since your family treated my late wife and Daniella like your own. I thought you’d be different. I kept your secret. Only to be repaid by such currently." Mr. Matthew's paced in the room, red from anger. "We are doing everything we can to find the rogues who attacked your family. I promise you I will find the justice you seek. We have always considered your family, especially Daniella, like one of us." "Then where were your so-called patrols on the night they were attacked? If they were one of you, how come you left them to fend off a werewolf on their own. Or do you only protect your kind?" Mr. Matthew spat. "The rogues, they were more than we expected. They attacked our own that night as well. Then by the time we captured their leader, it was too late. I am so sorry." Mr. Conner took a step toward Mr. Matthews, placing his hand on his shoulder. Mr. Matthews pushed his hand away and pointed his finger at Mr. Conner. "Conner, I don't want your apologies. I want you, your pup, or any of your kind to stay the hell away from Daniella. That pup of yours better ends his friendship with my daughter now. Or I swear to God you will have the WHC come down on your entire pack." Mr. Conner's eyes widen in shock, "WHC? Matthews, don't tell me?" "Yes, you got that right, ALHPA; you're looking at the captain of the Elite Taskforce for the Werewolf Hunter Confederation,” Mr. Matthews smirked, "Don't worry, Alpha, for the sake of my late wife who loved that pup of yours like her own. Your secret is safe, for now. But if you break our agreement, and I see your dog sniffing anywhere near my daughter. " "You have my word. Thank you, Matthews. I hope you would reconsider using your skills for good, though." - Present time — Both men drank their hot cocoa in silence as if they were reliving the same memory. Mr. Conner sighs before speaking, “I shouldn't have agreed to his terms quickly. Yet, it was the least I could do for a grieving man. He did keep our secret all those years, even when he was still working for WHC. " "Dad, we have talked about this. It was and still is what's best for Danny and the pack. She will never accept me, not after knowing a werewolf killed her mom. And we can't risk the pack's safety. What if Mr. Matthews makes good on his threat?" Blake walks up to his father and places his hand on his shoulder, squeezing it ever so slightly to comfort him. "But son, she is your mate! I am sure by now Matthews will understand." Mr. Connor’s voice breaks as he tries to hold back his tear. “Even if she wasn’t, this is Danny, Son. She is like a daughter to your mom and me. I shouldn’t have given up on her so quickly.” Mr. Conner leans on the counter as he continues, “She needed you, Lucas, and Jacob back then. Yet I agreed that her only best friend left ditched her.” He wipes a tear from her eyes. “You’ve been speaking to her teachers?” “Only the principal. It breaks my heart to hear how she has changed.” Mr. Connor looks away from Blake and wipes another tear that rolls down his cheek. Blake couldn’t feel that his dad was not telling him everything. Another time, he thought. He already knew his father was upset about things. He was clearing his throat before speaking. “Dad, even if we were still friends now. Do you think her father, a former WHC Captain, would allow his daughter to be a Luna of a pack? " “He may have already left the WHC, but you can’t shake racism that way. You know?” Blake takes a deep breath before continuing, “Besides, If Danny knew that a werewolf killed her mother, do you think she would want to be with one?” Blake sounded exasperated. He has discussed this with his father one too many times. "But son," Mr. Connor tries to continue but is quickly interrupted by Blake. "I will reject Danny for the sake of the pack. We were lucky Mr. Matthews kept his word for so long, but I don't want to push our luck." He takes a deep breath and continues, "Besides, Danny hates me now. I made sure of that.” He shakes his head as a look of disgust is written all over his face. He knew it would be impossible to reconnect with her after four years. Besides, It's what WHAT’S BEST FOR THE PACK. He repeated in his head. “She’s been through a lot. After a year, she will be in college. I am arranging that she get a scholarship from an IVY school. Heck, I know she could get that on her own if she wanted to. She needs to leave. Find he own people, find a human who will love her. She needs a normal life. That’s the best for her, and you know that" He didn’t expect the words to hurt him so much. Danny finds a human to love her. Felt like a knife sliced his heart in half. As he walked back to his room, he reminded himself. “Everything is going as planned; Blake, don’t screw it up now.” He told himself. But it’s been difficult for Blake ever since finding out she was his. He would catch himself trailing behind her in school. Sitting behind her in class and sometimes sniffing the air as she passes. To take in her scent. “God, I’ve turned in a creepy stalker,” he mumbles. Blakes tries to limit his interaction with her and keeps it all at school. He had to fight his wolf one too many times to fight to urge him to go to her house. Or follow her after school. He knew he needed to reject her and fast. Yet after today, after touching her, he wasn't too sure he could stay away from her anymore.
