Chapter 21

“I hold you in my dreams,” Blake said. - Present time – “I want the borders of our territory doubled. But not in wolf form. No one is to shift. The smells of our wolves might get to the hunters.” The Old Alpha commanded, “I want our human contacts to scout Matthew’s home” The Alpha paced “Dad, can you….” Blake takes a deep breath before continuing, “Stop pacing; the pounding is making my head hurt” Blake holds his head as he tries to get up from bed but is prevented by the cables attached to him that monitor his heart rate and other vitals. He tries to straighten himself but winches when he tries to move his leg. He lifts the blanket and sees his portion bound with a bandage. “I see you have your sense of humor in tack.” Blake’s mom, Jessica, was sitting on a chair next to his hospital bed. She stands and kisses his forehead. Then he presses the button next to him, which raises his backside and sits up. “Am glad you’re awake, my son.” “Thanks, mom” “You should not have tried to fight the hunter alone, my son.” His father clears his throat as he sits next to him on the bed. You could see the worry in his eyes. “I also couldn’t have just run, dad, you know that,” His father understood what he meant. IF he didn’t fight the hunter, it would have just followed him. He knew he could outrun the hunter, but it would have tracked him back to the pack. Or to the twin, which would have endangered his friends. Endangered Danny. A wave of concern consumed Blake. “I need to get back to the Crowle house.” He tried to get up, ignoring the pain in his leg. “Son, you know you can’t; your wound isn’t healing.” “I need to know if my friends are ok?” “Your friends or Daniella?” Blake freezes upon hearing her name utter by his father. “Your reaction is normal. You’ve just been attacked, and your mate isn’t here next to you safe. But you know as well as I do they are safe. I mean, she is safe.” “Will it still heal?” Blake was now looking at his bandaged leg. “It will but in human time. Our healing abilities will not work on a wound caused by a silver blade.” His dad explains. “Thankfully, it was alone” His mom’s voice broke the silence. “But that’s the weird thing; hunters never travel alone.” Blake’s dad says as he looks at his son before continuing, “Are you sure it was a hunter?” “yes, he masked his scent and the silver daggers.” As Blake mentions the silver daggers, a shiver goes down his back. He continues, “It’s uniform had the seal, dad. The seal of the werewolf hunter’s confederation.” “s**t!” His father said, “It’s been years since the WHC has been hunting Wolves openly. Last I heard from the council of elders, they were now more interested in Political allies and expanding their wealth. I even heard one of the councilmen say they now ally with powerful wolf packs.” “But we cannot trust the WHC. Whatever their plan now doesn’t change that they despise our kind. It’s in their f*****g name.” Blake retorts “I think it might be Matthew’s. You’ve been around Danny lately. And with the twin’s back. I think it’s just a warning. Reminding us of his threat.” His dad implies that the hunter went easy on him. “1st of all, can you give me some credit for my fighting capabilities, dad.” Blake huffs as he speaks. “secondly, he was much smaller than Mr. Matthews. It couldn’t be him.” “He was alone, yes, but I don’t think it was him; besides, Danny says he’s out of town, that’s why she’s able to stay at the twin’s house. ” Blake continued. The thought of Danny alone with Jacob and Lucas made him very jealous. He knew he had to push that aside for now. “Let’s not just rule him out just yet.” His dad throws him his mobile phone. Blake catches it midair. “Call Lucas. He has been calling since last night.” “What are you not telling me?” “Just call your friend.” The phone recognizes his face and unlocks. Automatically he sees the notifications from Lucas. He was a little disheartened that there was none from Danny. But then again, he just remembered that he didn’t even have her number. He was making a mental note to get her number next time. Blake dials Lucas's number. “Hey man, what happened to you? Your dad said you had some accident? You shouldn’t have gone running on your own, you know.” “Ah yes. It’s nothing serious. But it was a good thing I was near our house when it happened. I just nicked my leg, but I am fine. I should be able to be back and hang with you guys by tom.” “That’s good. Here I thought you and Dans went off for some private time,” Lucas teased. “What makes you say that?” Blake remembers the night before and how he longs to be with Danny right now. A wolf’s mate can help heal the wolf when their connection is strong. Just being with each other makes the other stronger. “Because she just bolted too. Something about her dad being back and having to go back home. But she promises to come to visit tom.” “Danny’s not there” A sense of relief washed over him. His jealous wolf was reeling at her being alone with Jacob. But then the realization hit him, Mr. Matthew was back on the same day he was attacked. “She told you her dad’s back?” Blake wondered why Danny had to bolt just because her dad was back. When he saw Mr. Matthew with Danny in the alley, he was very loving and gentle with her while she had a panic attack. Is it possible he was overly protective of her? Given the circumstances, Blake knew he would also be. He was already protective of her. He wanted to be the one protecting her, being there to comfort her. “That’s the thing. She didn’t even bother to come back to the house. Her items are still here. “She was out?” The thought of her being close by during the attack made his wolf itch to find her. She could have gotten hurt. The hunter could have thought she was one of them and killed her. Breath Blake, If the hunter is Mr. Matthews, he won’t hurt her. He reminded himself. “Yeah, after she made breakfast, she went out to walk around the property.” “You saw her?” “Nope, she just messaged me?” “She messaged you” His words were more forced than he meant them. Only because he was jealous that Lucas had her number. “Sorry, I mean, could you forward me her number?” “Sure thing.” “Well, I got to go, Luc; I’ll see you boys, tom.” As he placed the phone down, he looked over at his dad sitting on one of the hospital chairs. “So he’s back,” his dad mumbles under his breath.
