“Leave me alone” - Danny. - Present time - Danny sat under the bleachers as she ate her lunch. This was her haven from the noisy cafeteria. It was also a place to hide from her tormentors. Why they haven’t found her yet after all these years, she doesn’t know, nor cares to know. She was glad she had this hiding spot as Blake’s friends were extra annoying today. Blake’s fault mainly was when he decided to wait for her after school. And not just anywhere; he stood right by the school entrance. His red convertible Porsche parked by the first slot. Suppose she remembered it right; that slot was for the principal. She couldn’t deny, though, how hot he looked in his varsity jacket with his arms crossed over his chest as he leaned on the passenger side of his car. Fuming, she marches in the direction of the public bus. She could hear Blake call out her name as she almost ran to the bus stop. She sighs as she recounts the event of yesterday. She was leaning back on the steel beam. "What the f**k was that moron thinking?" She grumbled. Five more days, Danny. Just five more days. She chanted in her head. There were only five more days of school left. Five last days she was Danny the broken. She couldn’t wait to get out. She started getting excited about her father and her plans for after high school until the thought of Blake Conner entered her head. “Why couldn’t he just continue ignoring me” She spoke to herself. “Why the sudden interest?” She wondered. Yet was it sudden? She thought. She thought about how Blake started acting differently since the school year. For starters, he wouldn’t pretend that she didn’t exist. Recalling how when one of the jocks knocked the books, she was carrying, he helped her after scolding the jerk jock. The cheerleaders weren’t as mean as they previously were after that one time, Blake called this out after making fun of her. He also took the seat next to her in every class, even those he wasn’t supposed to be in. And how he would linger a little longer after each class, even after she left. After biology, she had to go back to the classroom to pick up her forgotten book. Blake was on her seat, almost sniffing the air around him. Yet the stranger thing was not even how Blake behaved. It’s how she secretly liked having Blake within her line of sight. For some reason, she felt less anxious about getting triggered. But then again, even when they were tiny, she always felt safe around him. “This is f*****g Blake Conner,” She scolded herself as she threw her head back; she hit the steel pole a little too hard. “See, even the bleachers agree,” She laughed while rubbing the back of her head. Blake was no longer her friend, and she knew it was a stunt whatever he was doing. They must be planning something to embarrass her on the last day of school. Convincing herself, Blake was up to no good. She finished her sandwich and energy drink. Before taking a sip of the energy drink, a hand grabbed the glass out of her hand. She was spilling a few drops on her sweater. “What the f**k” She screams as she looks up between the bleachers; she spots Blakes’s face. “You may want to lay low of this. Did you know this is not healthy for you? he says coyly as if he didn’t ‘spill her drink on her? “Congratulations for noticing how many I consume while in school” She shoots him a fake toothy smile, “It’s fine; I have more of that.” She says as she pulls out from the kangaroo pocket in front of her sweater. “You got to be kidding me,” Blake says as he reaches between the bleachers to take the drink. Danny knew he would do this and quickly ducked to the right. It was a much tighter spot to get out from under the bleachers. She crawled fast towards the exit tucking the drink back in her pocket. As she got to the opening, an amused Blake smiled at her as he offered his hand to help her up. “Need some help?” He laughs. “You know the other way won’t leave you any skid marks.” He arched his brow and pointed to the grass and dirt stains on her knees. “What would people say, spotting you and me here. Plus, looking all messed up?” Blake teased. The back of the bleachers is known to be the hook-up spot for most students. “SO I am guessing you’re a frequent flyer here,” Danny sneers as a a pang of jealousy pierced through her heart. A look of guilt consumed Blake’s face as he refrained from answering. His hand was still out to help her stand. Danny just swatted it away as she pushed the shelf up. They were dusting off lost grass that was stuck on her jogging pants. “Going back to your earlier question. Then I guess people would say you finally conquered Danny the broken. The loner finally gave into Blake Conner’s charms. And you and your friends can all have a good laugh about it.” She wondered why his demeanor changed; he looked upset, and she almost felt guilty. “Danny..” “Look, Blake, no hard feelings. I won’t even shed a tear over it. Nothing happened. and I won’t ruin your parade. Now go ahead, run off to your friends and tell them that you’ve done it. Mission accomplished. So, you could go f*****g leave me alone!” Blake looks at her with pain written on his face. "Do you think that low of me?" Danny, about to reply, opens and she closes her mouth, surprised by his response. Was this version of Blake, be capable of just a dubious thing? Yes, he ignored her for four years. Yes, he allowed his friends to bully her. But they never physically hurt her. He never joined while they made fun of her. So, could this version of Blake be capable of doing this to her? She wished he wasn’t, but she didn’t trust him despite how her My heart was racing that very moment. She crosses her arms over her chest as she takes a deep breath. Closing her eyes as she controls her pool of mixed emotions. “AHH,” She sighs, “What am I to do with you, Conner?” When she opened her eyes, she found Blake staring at her. The kind of stare someone does when they are thinking about doing things to you. His eyes traced every inch of her body. And as his eyes met hers, his breathing was heavy. Danny felt self-conscious; It was the first time someone had looked at her that way. Butterflies flutter inside her stomach. Instead of getting annoyed, a tingling sensation ran down her back, causing her to shiver a little. Blake smiled as if satisfied with her reaction.
