“Our wolf guides us,” Blake.
Blake looks out the hospital window, Clutching the pole of
the IV drip. His wolf has been at odds with him since the fight with the
hunter.
“What’s the wrong, son?” His father was standing by the entrance
of the hospital room. “You should have rung for the nurses if you needed
something.” He continued.
“Oh, I thought you’d left.” Blake walks toward the hospital bed
as his father helps him back in bed.
“You think your mom would allow you are being alone in the
hospital?” His dad smiled.
“Ah yes, and the all-mighty Alpha can never say no to his Luna,”
Blake laughs. A Luna is what the mate of an Alpha is called.
“Laugh all you want, kiddo, but you’ll understand once..” His
dad looks away; “Am sorry, kiddo.”
“No, it’s ok, Dad.” Blake places his hand on his father’s
forearm.
“What is bothering you, son. Is it about Danny?”
Blake was unsure if now was the right time to tell his father
that he had decided not to reject Danny. That he would do what he can to make
her fall in love with him. That he has chosen her.
The old man searches his son’s eyes; Blake doesn’t look away as
he speaks, “My wolf. He’s been weird lately.”
“Weird how?” His father asked with concern.
“When we were fighting the hunter. He didn’t want me to harm the
hunter. He was fighting for control throughout the fight. And when I gave the
final blow that sent the hunter crushing to the tree. I swear it felt like it
didn’t want to leave him. And since then his been blocking me. He’s mad at me
for hurting the hunter.” Blake looked as confused as he sounded.
His dad was quiet for a bit, but you could see that he was
thinking deeply through his eyes.
“It’s like he knew who it was and didn’t want me to hurt him.”
“Then that confirms it; it was indeed Matthews. You’ve been
close to Danny’s parents before…” he takes a deep breath, “ Before the attack.”
“So?” Blake frowns, confused at his father’s sudden confirmation
of who the hunter was.
“Your wolf must have felt conflicted. It was your first real
battle with a hunter son. And this hunter happens to be your Mate’s father.”
“Do you think my wolf could sniff him even through his masked
scent?” Blake sat up straight, understanding what his father meant.
“I don’t know. This is the first I’ve heard of it. Usually, our
wolves protect us. And even if it’s a friend, but it’s attacking us, the wolf
instinctively goes on protection mode.” His father replies.
Blake thought for a second; he was indeed close to Mr. Matthews
when he was younger. And he knew if anything happened to Mr. Matthew, it would
crush Danny. Maybe that’s what his wolf was telling him all along.
“Again, I am sorry you are in this predicament, son. But in the
end, it was a fight. He’s lucky you didn’t end his life.” His father’s eyes
filled with guilt.
“Again, dad, it’s not your fault. You wouldn’t have known who my
mate would have been? And we didn’t know about Mr. Matthew before the attacks.”
“So, does this mean you’ll stay away from Danny now?” His father
looks at him.
“Ah, about that” Blake pauses. It was no longer a topic he could
avoid telling his Alpha about. “I don’t plan to reject her dad.”
“But son.” His father looks at him with concern.
“I love her dad. And not just because of some destined fate by
the Gods.” He takes a deep breath before continuing, “I love her for who she
is. I’ve loved her since we were young, and I’ve loved her since then. And I
love her even more now.”
Before speaking, he looks away from his father, “I’ve just been
stopping myself from feeling it. I am done with that. I am done stopping
myself from loving her.”
Mr. Conner sits on the chair next to the bed. “what do you plan
to do about us being wolves? Does she even know we exist? Will she accept you
for that? What about when she finds out its wolves caused her mother’s
death?”
Blake knew what his father was doing. He was making him see the
the reality of his situation with the path he was pursuing with Danny.
Blake turns to face his father and says, “Dad, I love
her.”
His father leans closer to his son. “I know, son, but ….”
“I know there are many buts, and the situation with Mr. Matthews
making it even direr.” He interrupts his father. “But what kind of man am I if
I don’t give it a chance. When the time comes that I need to tell her the truth
about our kind and she rejects me, so be it.”
Blake smirks as he continues, “She can also reject me now
as being human. I know I haven’t been the nicest human to her lately.” Blake
cringed at the thought of his high school days.
He talks a deep breath before continuing, “But I can’t stop
myself from loving her, and it will kill me if I reject her.”
“Son, I know how you feel.” His father interjects.
“You can’t possibly know, dad.” Blake quickly wipes a tear from
his cheek. “I will not be able to live with myself if I reject her. I have to
try at least.”
The following day Blake’s alone in his hospital room, dressed
and getting ready to be discharged. Blake takes out his phone and scrolls to
the message of Lucas that has Danny’s mobile number.
Blake types and re-types his message to her, figuring out what
to say. Until he accidentally sends out his statement saying, “Hi.”
What the f**k, he thought to himself. Then he sees the three
dots indicating she is typing back.
“No one to bug Conner,” Danny replied.
She replied is all Blake could think of. It felt like he was on
cloud 9. She could have just ignored his text, but she answered.
“wait, how did you know it was me?”
“Lucas. I got your number from him”
“So you asked for my number? May I ask why?” Blake asked,
fishing for a complement.
Three dots, then nothing.
Blake waited, already thinking about the worst-case scenario.
“Lucas sent me your number. I didn’t ask for it.”
Blake felt a little disheartened.
“How are the twins? I had to bolt and will be back for my things a
couple of days from now. Dad’s back. So”
Blake realized she hadn’t messaged Lucas since. She doesn’t know
he’s been injured. He wondered If he should tell her but opted not to. He was more
curious about why she had to bolt so quickly, leaving her things because of her
dad’s back.
“So your dad’s back, and we can no longer hang out?” He asked
curiously. Hoping he’s not pushing her for information too much.
“It’s not like that. Dad’s a little overly protective. Why so
curious and bored with our British twin’s already?” She quips
Blake enjoyed this; they were talking and talking more than they
do when they are together.
“I had to run back home too.” He tells her. She was bound to know
when she saw the twins again, so why keep it.
“What’s wrong?” Danny texted back
Blake’s heart swells. Danny is asking him if anything is wrong.
Oh, how he wanted to tell her he was hurt. To have his mate comfort him. To
have her beside him. But he knew they were still very far from that.
“Nothing. I’ll be back with the twins tonight. It’s pizza and
movie night. You sure you can’t make it?”
Three dots
Three dots
Three dots
“See you when I see you, Conner.”
