The Abusive marriage

1115 Words
I entered my car as I heaved a sigh. The prison was located in the center of an island, and the speedboat had dropped me on shore less than ten minutes ago. I looked at the time as my eyes widened; I was late for the family dinner. I entered my car and began driving back home. My father-in-law was the president and Alpha of the southern territories, Darius Veyra. He had ruled this county for twenty years and was known as one of the most powerful men in the world. He was also one of the main figures who took over the world from humans. Under the southern territories, there were more than thirty packs, and we humans were forced to register with some of these packs for accountability. Including my family and me. Six months ago, my father was accused of stealing from Darius, and as a result, he took me into his family to settle my father’s debts. I was forcibly married to the second son. Though it would have been seen as a blessing and an honorable event, it wasn’t. Wolves weren’t known to be kind to humans; everyone knew that. Amara, Silas's wife, was barren. She had her ovaries removed due to cancer, and I was the replacement, tasked with the duty to give the Veyra family an heir. It didn’t matter that I was human; werewolf genes always dominated human genes. So, it was quite normal for wolves to hire a surrogate mother for their children, though mine came with a title. I drove back home, praying Darius hadn’t arrived yet. We had a family dinner every Tuesday. I drove into the mansion, a three-story luxurious building, to see several cars lined up, and I knew I was late. I panicked as I rushed out of the car, rushing into the house. The maids were lined up as I heard loud laughter coming from the dining room, and I knew my father-in-law must be in there, seeing as Amara was laughing loudly. I walked in as all eyes turned to me. Darius sat at the head of the table, Silas at his right, and Amara on his left. "There you are, I was about to send a search party for you," he teased, as his sharp eyes met mine. I knew that wasn't a tease, as I got on my knees and bowed. "I'm sorry, Father, I was held back at work," I pleaded as I looked down at the ground. "Shut up, you swine! Does your work seem more important than this family dinner?" Amara snapped at me, her sharp glare directed at me. "Leave the poor girl alone; she is still young. Once she is done with college, she will have nowhere to go, and will always be here" Darius laughed. I could feel the threats behind his words; I was to round up with college in a month. This psychology practice was my project. "Come, child, come have a seat," he laughed as he spoke, and I stood to my feet as I walked to the table and sat by Silas’s side. I could see the glare Amara threw my way. "Father was just asking about the development," Amara started. I knew what she was talking about, and I clenched my fist. I looked at Darius, who was looking at me. If there was one thing he wanted so much, it was a grandchild. "I'm sorry, Father, but there isn't any progress from last month," I said with my head bowed, pretending I was sorry about not taking in. "It's okay, child. Your test results came back fine, I'm sure. You just have to meet the doctor to tell you what can be done. I'm not getting any younger; the sooner I see my grandchild, the better," he laughed, and I nodded. "Sure, Father," I answered. What they didn't know was that I had been on birth control. Silas didn't say a word as he continued eating as if the conversation had nothing to do with him. He was a monster, and I hated him; I hated every one of them. But defining the Darius was like wishing for death. This marriage was a farce, and everyone knew that Darius had blackmailed and threatened me ,to accept this marriage , and I had no choice but to accept but to Silas's proposal. We barely ever exchanged a word, not that Amara would let him talk to me anywhere. The only time we ever spoke was when he came to my bed. As much as it hurt Amara, she had no choice but to watch her husband sleep with another woman to have an heir. “Father, we can’t continue this, I suggest we finish him off, who knows what tricks he may pull up again,” Silas began. I had no idea what they were talking about but I was quite used to conversation popping in from nowhere ,wolves had a way to communicate telepathically. “Silence! Killing him without the seal is futile. Until he transfers ownership to me, then he is to be kept alive. That’s final,” Silas sneered at his son. I didn’t know what they were talking about, but whatever it was, I could see it upset Silas, who sat by me. “That will be all. I look forward to hearing good news from you two. Don’t disappoint me,” he warned as he stood to his feet. Whatever that topic referred to, it must have upset him to the point he felt uncomfortable to remain here and wanted to leave. Every one of us stood to our feet as we bowed. “Yes, father, I will do my very best,” Silas responded as Darius turned and left. As soon as Darius left, he turned and struck me, catching me unaware. I collapsed to the ground as I coughed out blood. “How dare you! How dare a lowlife like you humiliate me!” he snapped, and I held back, remaining silent. “Don’t mind her, dear. Come with me, we have a lot to work on,” Amara responded as she walked ahead of her husband. But he leaned towards me, yanking my shirt as he stared into my eyes. “You will behave yourself. Tomorrow we will go to the goddamn doctor for a test, and pray , we have a positive result or you’re useless to me,” he snapped as he walked away, Amara behind him. As soon as they left, I was left alone as the maids came to clean up the table they had left behind. Now I had to look forward to tomorrow.
