Abe:
The smell of coffee beans and cocoa filled the shop. “Good Morning! Welcome to Starbucks, what can I get for you today?” The delectable barista behind the counter was looking more than fine this morning. Her badge displayed the name Sarah. She looked enough like a Sarah, sweet and maybe 21 years old. I looked beside me at yet another beautiful woman. I had to drag my gaze away from her blue Jean miniskirt right next to me picking up her Frappuccino. She was baring the skin of a round apple bottom that I wanted to plunge my length into. When her name was called out to get her drink it was Jasmine. What a fitting name for such a sexy piece. She saw my lingering eyes and smiled an innocent smile back using her blue eyes to drink me in return while biting her lower lip. She liked what she saw too. That was all the signs I needed to make a move. How was I going to get this woman alone?
“Earth to Abe!” Adair helped me snap out of my lust trance. Which was good because I can get carried away and before you know it I will have Jasmine the Barista in the bathroom against the wall. But Adair and I have much more important things to discuss.
“ I will have a Venti Caramel Macchiato with a triple shot of espresso.” This surprised Sarah, she was hoping for a more detailed conversation with me, but I didn’t respond. I turned to Adair, “I’m focused okay. I have blinders on.” There were more pressing things to think about with creating our plan. We had signed a contract to do a job in the human world. Sure we interacted in the human world from time to time to get things we needed or enjoy a coffee or a movie but our kind did not routinely intermingle with humans. It was just too much of a risk. If we wanted to survive as a race we had to keep separate no matter how many beautiful apple bottoms this world held. The punishment was death and so far no one had ever crossed that law.
Adair cleared his throat, lowering his head,“ We need a way to get close to Scott and Jane.Do you have any ideas of what we could do?”
“I don’t know if we need to get close to them, we just need to agree on a way to get the job done. It would be fine if they never see us.” I replied confidently. The list of ideas I had kept getting longer. I’m sure Adair wouldn’t like any of my ideas with his moral compass shining bright.” I don’t think we should care about a moral way of killing someone. It is the same result, might as well have some fun with it.” Adair looked at me dismissively and replied, “Your version of fun is not my version of fun. You are on a path to become the world’s next serial killer. I’m leaving you if that happens.” He truly is a buzz kill I thought to myself.
After I got my coffee from the counter we made our way outside the coffee shop to sit on a bench positioned right in the busiest part of the street. The street was full of the energy of hope pushing people in and out of doors towards their dreams. I had never noticed the similarities between city life and a bee hive. The buzz and bustle, honey and money even rhyme. This Starbucks was located just outside Scott Laurenter conglomerate making this the perfect hang out spot for today. We could plan and observe the location and people all at the same time.
The air was warmer this morning and the sun was shining in my face. The seasons were changing from spring to summer. I don’t know why but today the city didn’t make me nervous. It felt right, like we were just any set of people enjoying a bench, conversation, and coffee. I tried to stretch my leg out but I almost tripped a person.
“Abe, we have to be smart about this. It can’t come back and reflect on our kind or the job will be wasted because our lives will be over. We can take on almost all of the werewolves but not every single werewolf. That is what we will be dealing with if this goes south. Taking a human job is probably the worst decision we have ever made.”
I could tell by the solemn look on his face he was hoping I understood the importance of what he was saying. I had never thought about if we could take on every were wolf or not. The only ones that might make us break a sweat would be the Alpha and the Betas and that only ten. “Whatever your thinking right now brother stop. I know that look.” Adair interrupted my thoughts. “ I was just thinking we might could take all the Alphas and Betas. You think so?”
“No Abe, I do not think we could take all the Alphas and Beta’s,” Adair responded like I was I child.
When did he become the big brother? I must have done something right raising him in the forest. We shared a special bond. I will always be proud of him and always be beside of him as a friend and brother.
“Quick question have you seen this Jane lady? Is she hot? Maybe I could have some time with her.We could keep her even if you wanted to.”I said just to irritate Adair. It worked.
He grabbed my neck, “Dude. We. Are. Not. Going. To…
“Just kidding, just kidding, I get it I really do. What do you suggest?” I put my hands up to let him know I surrendered. I scanned the street. No one was watching us or near enough to hear our conversation.

Adair:
“I think we should get a job inside Laurenter so we know their schedule and location at almost all times.” Abe choked on his coffee then started wiping his shirt with a napkin. I continued. “I checked online this morning and they have part time openings for keeping the books and in the mail room. That is a job for each of us. We should start by figuring out how to apply for those positions.” Abe raised an eyebrow at me and looked less than amused by my idea. I’m sure he was hoping for something with more blood and gore.
“I’m sorry if I disappointed you with our first step.”
Abe quickly replied,“ If that’s what we are going with, I get to apply for the mail room. I do NOT want to crunch numbers all day.” Abe made a perfectly polite gesture with his middle finger right at me and I returned double the gesture back. “We both know I’m better with numbers anyway. You have to lay low so no one notices you. No flirting with coworkers. No sleeping with workers in the mailroom. You need to be all but invisible. You hear me Abe?”
“What are you getting at? Me? I would never do that. I don’t think you know me at all. I put personal the money safety of me and the members of the department I work in seriously.”
“Sure you wouldn’t. You have no problem controlling your Johnson. I forgot, my bad.” We both laughed at the ridiculousness of that statement.
“How will we manage to get hired when we have no experience? It’s not like we are made for these positions. Heck I don’t even have a mailbox. You don’t have a bank account.” Abe took another sip of coffee and looked up making eye contact with a blonde. I looked up and noticed several women watching us as they walked by. It might be harder to blend in that I thought. If we can not blend in we just have to come across as trustworthy.
“That is an excellent question and valid points.”
Abe brought up an important problematic question. What would we put on a job application to actually get hired when our only work experience was as mercenaries and our background check would render us non-existent. These were valid points and hurdles to jump over. We didn’t just need legitimate applications but we needed to be the candidates that were hired. How could we ensure that?
“We will have to get creative.” I smiled. I had a plan already and it involved seduction and a witch.
“Do you remember where Ender Forest is? There is a witch there that can help us.”
Someone sat down on the bench next to us. “Time to go! See you later.”
