Without warning, something hit the window near Tamra’s shoulder, causing them both to jump and spin around in their seats to see what had happened. A loud pounding at the door brought them both up short. “Miss Kelso” the older woman called out, “It’s me Mrs. Hill” she continued yelling. “May I come in” she called while wiggling the door handle, “Mrs. Hill, please be patient. I am coming to unlock the door”, Tamra replied while cautiously approaching the door. Her Uncle stepped in front of Tamra and lightly placed a restraining hand against her lower arm as he stepped up and slowly unlocked and opened the door to the older woman. She looked a bit pale even for a black woman, which he found rather intriguing. He motioned her inside the room, and when he spun around to look at the location Tamra once stood. He noticed that she was gone, and the window had been broken. And yet he found it interesting that he hadn’t even heard the glass shatter.
Looking through the broken window, he saw no evidence of her disappearance or that of her abductor’s disappearance. Phelan began to move slowly back away from the window as if still hunting for his niece. With all of his senses on high alert, he walked over to Mrs. Hill, who stood frozen onto the spot staring at the window, looking just as puzzled as he was, though she glanced at the base of the window on the floor and there was no glass to be seen, but looking outside on the ground she saw all of the broken glass laying among her neatly kept grounds and the plants surrounding the small Inn.
