BOUND BY FATE Episode 12: Blackwood Manor The road stretched endlessly before them as Adrian drove through the pouring rain. Neither he nor Maya spoke. Daniel's final words echoed in their minds. **Go to Blackwood Manor.** Maya stared out of the window, clutching her mother's diary against her chest. The gold ring and the silver locket rested in her palm. Somehow, she knew they were connected. "Do you think Victoria killed Daniel?" she asked quietly. Adrian tightened his grip on the steering wheel. "I don't know. But Daniel risked his life to save you. Whatever his past was, I believe he wanted to make things right." After nearly two hours, the rain began to ease. At the top of a hill stood an enormous mansion surrounded by ancient oak trees. Blackwood Manor. Its stone walls, tall windows, and iron gates gave it the appearance of a castle. Beautiful by day, intimidating by night. Maya looked up in amazement. "You grew up here?" Adrian nodded. "My family has owned this estate for over a hundred years." As they walked through the grand entrance, Maya noticed portraits of the Blackwood family lining the walls. One portrait immediately caught her attention. It showed Adrian's father standing beside another man. The man's face had been slashed with a knife. The same thing had been done to the photograph they found in the cabin. "Someone wanted his identity erased," Maya whispered. Adrian frowned. "I've seen this portrait my whole life, but I never questioned it." An elderly butler appeared from the hallway. "Master Adrian," he said politely. "Welcome home." Adrian smiled faintly. "Good to see you, Thomas." Thomas turned to Maya and bowed respectfully. "You must be Miss Maya." "You know my name?" she asked. Thomas hesitated. "Your parents visited this manor many years ago." Maya exchanged a surprised glance with Adrian. "Everyone seems to know more about my life than I do," she said bitterly. Thomas lowered his eyes. "There are some truths that powerful people tried very hard to bury." After settling into the library, Adrian placed the diary, map, ring, and locket on a large wooden table. "The map says the truth is buried beneath the rose garden." Thomas's face suddenly lost all color. "No..." Adrian looked up. "What is it?" "There is an old family legend." "What legend?" Thomas swallowed nervously. "They say the founder of the Blackwood family built a secret chamber beneath the rose garden." Adrian leaned forward. "Why didn't anyone tell me?" "Because every person who searched for it... disappeared." The room fell silent. Despite the warning, Adrian stood up. "We're going tonight." Maya nodded. "We've come too far to stop now." Just after midnight, armed with flashlights and the old map, they stepped into the vast rose garden behind the mansion. The moonlight illuminated hundreds of blooming red roses swaying gently in the breeze. Following the map, they reached an old marble statue of an angel. "This is the place," Maya whispered. She noticed a small keyhole hidden at the base of the statue. Her heart began to race. "The brass key..." With trembling hands, she inserted the key they had found in the cabin. For a moment... Nothing happened. Then a deep rumbling sound echoed beneath the ground. The statue slowly slid aside, revealing a narrow stone staircase leading into darkness. A cold gust of air rose from below. Adrian shone his flashlight into the tunnel. "It really exists." Before they could take a single step, a voice echoed behind them. "I wouldn't go down there if I were you." They spun around. Standing among the roses was Thomas. But he was no longer dressed like a butler. He wore a black suit... and on his right hand was a silver ring engraved with a serpent. Maya's heart stopped. Thomas smiled. "I've been waiting for you." **To Be Continued...**
