Episode 5: A Safe Place

The police searched the area, but the masked men had vanished without a trace.

Adrian led Maya back to the car. Neither of them spoke as they drove through the quiet streets.

An hour later, they arrived at a secluded lakeside house surrounded by tall pine trees.

"This place belongs to my late grandfather," Adrian said. "No one knows about it."

Maya looked around. It was peaceful, yet she couldn't shake the feeling that danger was still close.

Inside, Adrian handed her a towel and a warm cup of tea.

"You should get some rest."

Maya stared at him.

"Why are you helping me?"

For a moment, Adrian was silent.

"Because years ago, I made a promise to someone."

"Who?"

"Your father."

Maya's eyes widened.

Before Adrian could explain further, his phone rang.

He answered, and his face immediately turned pale.

"What?" he said.

After a long pause, he ended the call.

"What happened?" Maya asked.

"They broke into my office."

"Did they steal anything?"

Adrian nodded.

"The only file that could prove who ordered your father's murder."

Maya felt the room spin.

"If the evidence is gone... how will we ever find the killer?"

Adrian looked toward the window.

"I don't think they stole it."

"What do you mean?"

"I think someone inside my company helped them."

At that very moment, a figure dressed in black stood outside the cabin, watching through the window.

The stranger smiled and quietly whispered,

"They're exactly where I wanted them."
