BOUND BY FATE
Episode 6: The Hidden Truth
The silence inside the cabin became unbearable.
Maya slowly walked toward the window, carefully pulling the curtain aside. Outside, the rain had stopped, but the forest was covered in a thick blanket of fog. Whoever had been watching them was gone.
"Did you see someone?" Adrian asked as he entered the room.
"I thought I did," Maya replied softly. "Maybe I'm just imagining things."
Adrian wasn't convinced. He stepped outside and searched around the cabin with a flashlight. Fresh footprints were pressed into the wet ground beneath the window. Someone had definitely been there.
He returned inside, locking every door and window.
"We're leaving at sunrise," he said firmly.
Maya nodded, though she could see the worry in his eyes. Whoever was hunting them always seemed to be one step ahead.
Later that night, sleep refused to come.
Unable to rest, Maya wandered into a small room at the end of the hallway. It looked like an old study that hadn't been used in years. Dust covered the shelves, and faded photographs hung on the walls.
One picture caught her attention.
She froze.
It showed her parents smiling beside Adrian's father and another man whose face had been scratched out with something sharp.
Her heart pounded.
"Who are you?" she whispered.
As she reached for the frame, she noticed something hidden behind it.
A small brass key.
Before she could inspect it further, Adrian appeared in the doorway.
"You found it."
"You knew this was here?"
He sighed.
"My grandfather told me that if anything ever happened to him, I should protect this cabin... and the secrets hidden inside it."
"What does this key open?"
"I've never found the lock."
Just then, the lights suddenly went out.
The cabin was swallowed by darkness.
Maya gasped.
"Adrian?"
"I'm here."
A loud crash came from downstairs.
Someone had broken in.
Adrian quickly grabbed a flashlight from the table and motioned for Maya to stay behind him. Together, they crept down the staircase, every step echoing through the silent house.
The front door was wide open, swinging gently in the cold night breeze.
On the floor lay a black envelope.
Adrian picked it up carefully.
Inside was a single photograph.
It showed Maya as a little girl standing beside her parents.
Across the picture, written in red ink, were chilling words:
"She was never supposed to survive."
Maya's hands began to shake.
"What does this mean?"
Before Adrian could answer, another piece of paper slipped from the envelope.
It contained only an address.
Adrian stared at it in disbelief.
"No..."
"What is it?" Maya asked.
He looked at her with fear in his eyes.
"This address belongs to the orphanage where you were taken after your parents died."
Maya's breathing became uneven.
"Then that's where our answers are."
Far away, in a luxurious mansion overlooking the city, the mysterious woman watched live security footage from a hidden camera inside the cabin.
She smiled as she picked up her phone.
"Prepare the team," she ordered.
"They're walking straight into the trap."
